BBC filming kids for Outback 8

At first news of Outback 8 was sounding like Kid Nation or My Kid’s a Star all over again, but in fact a BBC series filming kids as jackaroos is claiming to be observational, not reality.

Still I’m guessing it will manage to make news across the coming months nonetheless.

One of our networks is reportedly involved with the programme shooting in Queensland (just haven’t worked out which one!).

The format?

“We’ve taken four Australian children, four British children, aged between 12 and 14, and we’ve brought them to Longreach to learn basically how to be jackeroos,” spokesperson Geoff Cooper said.

It is currently being filmed on a working sheep and cattle property in central western Queensland.

Cooper says it is hoped the program will help to inform young people about rural life.

Hope they got some friendly Shetland ponies….

I’d LOVE to be one the Outback 8. I’ve had some experience with horses, but thats english riding and that sort of stuff they do in the Olympics! When I was younger I wanted to grow up to be a cowgirl!! My little sis wants to try for Outback 8 like me but she’s only just 10 years and we didn’t think she was old enough! Please keep us posted so we know if there is going to be another Outback 8! Even if we only get to watch it!

  5. i am 14 soon and i am in love with outback 8 i dream of going and learning.
i have had 3 ponies and are used to the tricky ones and fast wild ones. horses and farm work is my life.
monday i get back from school and go riding, tusesday is the same ,wed i do all my daily homework .then, i go riding on thurs and after go to the farm and help with the sheep and lamb feeding. fri i have my riding lesson and i look forward to it all week..then i sleep down the farm and all day and most of the night helping with herding and feeding and selling all that stuff. sometimes its quite hard for all my city friends to understand why i cant go shopping and girly things like that so i would love to get the oppertunity to go on this trip to help people understand the work that is involved in farming and land owning and rearing animals plus i could do my dad proud and shape up on herding…!
( i have recorded all the episodes and im gonna watch them again and dream of it happening to me)……….hannah …. xx

  6. At this stage Ten hasn’t commissioned a second series. If they do, there will be a casting call at some stage or you can keep an eye on the Ten website, in particular Totally Wild website for more info…

  7. I love this show sooo much, i’m so happy i was bored at 4pm the day it started and flicked over to channel 10 because its one of my fav shows on tv now.
the horses are soooo cute and the kids on the show seem like really nice people.
i’m 11 from bathurst, nsw and i would love to be on this show.
but i think it would be impossible because i work as a jillaroo part time in between school so i’d be a pro lol.
anyways, i think it would be fun and a brilliant opportunity for kids to join in the fun of being a jackaroo/jillaroo.
i loved kid nation and i’m so happy there’s another show like it but in a different context! =D

    Tahnee

  12. are they going to have one every year coz if they do then i will try to apply 4 1
if i am aloud to go on and because i love horses /horse riding and i live in the country i want 2 learn how to become a jackaroo

ps i have been bucked off a pony about 18 times that was riding bear back

  13. This show is much better than “Kid Nation”. It is realistic, and shows the kids in a good light, able to cope with the situations presented. My one criticism is that the episodes are editted too tightly, with interviews and adverts taking up most of the time, leaving about ten minutes of real time in the 30min show. It would be good to see a re-cut of the show into a documentary after it has been aired, showing unused scenes, much more detail, and longer details. As a DVD such a documentary would sell quite well.

  14. Omg this show it so cool please make another one please because i want to try and apply for it.
whats the maximum age to be?
    thanks
    Lanni
