  1. David, I live in Sydney and I was one of the fortunate ones to watch the Emmys at a decent hour on Ten. Now I am guessing that you didn’t watch the replay on Ten at the ridiculous hour that you evenually got it. So when you watched it live on Arena was there any musical numbers or any montages? Because Ten didn’t show any. Also towards the back half of the show it seemed far, far too rushed. Now I know that these awards presentations can be a difficult beast, and it is important to keep to pace up but this is Emmys – television’s night of nights in America and the 60th edition as well and I just felt it lost a little bit of its shine by zipping through the awards just too quickly in my mind. What did you think?

I do agree with Craig though that Ricky Gervais was by far the highlight of the night and that the opening was well below par. Where was the big opening number or the hilarious opening monologue?

To award winners themselves it was great to see gongs go to The Colbert Report and The Daily Show – two funniest show on TV in my mind. But I was a little bit disappointed to see Hugh Laurie miss out. I also haven’t seen Mad Men so I will definitely have to now.

  2. 30 Rock got what it deserved, this 2nd season has been some of the funniest television i have seen in a long time.

Nice to see Glenn Close and Zelijko Ivanek get rewarded for Damges.

Haven’t seen mad men, might have to now

  3. I only watched part of it, but I did enjoy Ricky Gervais and Josh Groban’s theme song melody.

Oh, and if anyone wanted to know, the Emmy’s had many comedy and drama memorable moments (from TV shows) that people could vote for. The top 5 of comedy and the top 5 of drama were going to be shown, but weren’t because of time constraints. On the Emmy’s website, it has Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Friends getting the most votes in the drama and comedy category, respectively.

    I voted for both :D!

  4. Why is 30 Rock so damn popular with critics? It isn’t even that funny. It seems to be only the programs that are ignored by the public yet loved by a tiny, passionate fanbase that seem to be doing well in award ceremonies like this. The Office is a much better show and has been consistently awesome since the first episode, I don’t see why it was shunned for every award it was nominated for this year. Disappointing.

And Neil Patrick Harris being shunned for an Emmy is a crime. Entourage is fantastic but NPH steals HIMYM as Barney. He deserves some recognition for his work. And as for LOST being shunned as well after its best season yet, thats just dumb. If you went out on the street and asked people what they thought of Mad Men, people would probably just look at you confused. Overall, I’m not satisfied with any of these results. Then again, the Emmys are a joke anyway. The only real thing to come out of them is that the Grim Reaper will likely draw its scythe away from those cult shows that won award after award for a couple of seasons.

  5. the opening was woeful!! one of the worst award show moments ive ever seen, Heidi Klum was right to stand there and not say a word, she no doubt saw the car wreck taking place around her and thought better of contributing!

By far the highlight was Ricky Gervais..very funny man!

  6. whoever decided those 5 idiots should host needs to be shot. half the people on stage presenting looked terrified of the teleprompter. I wish I was able to see the shows on free to air that won big; I wasn’t familiar with a lot of the winners. I wish Steve, Rainn and the Office had come through; much funnier than 30 Rock and Alec Baldwin, in my opinion. but Tina Fey can’t be denied; she’s genius.

Ricky Gervais brought some much needed comedy but overall it was a pretty lackluster event for me.

  7. Great to see Bryan Cranston win. Breaking Bad is an awesome show and he is tremendous in it, although it would have been good if he and Michael C. Hall both won it.
