One HD is the name of TEN’s new 24hr sports channel, set to air in April.

The channel promises a mix of local and international sports with two expanded editions of Sports Tonight each day, including one in prime time.

Programming is tipped to include NBA Basketball, US Open Golf, US Masters Golf, IPL Twenty20 Cricket, Trans-Tasman Netball League, Formula One Grand Prix, the Nascar series, World Golf Championship and tennis.

One HD will air on Ch 1 in high def and be rebroadcast in SD on Ch 12, currently the home of TEN HD.

    TO ALL: Yes it is replacing the current TENHD on Ch1 and it will be simulcast in SD on Ch12
    It will be national by 2013 (including regional areas)
    It is a smart move given that the number 1 reason for Subscription take up is Sport. With sport moving to ONE, those SCI Fi Shows and Doco’s will probably end up on CH10. Sport looks better in HD than any other genre (with the possible exception of Nature Doco’s).

  2. Do you people read your comments before posting?? Its just television for gods sake – its not your life! Good on TEN for taking the initiative and to do something highly competitive. And to all the people who think no one will watch it – think again – sport IS the big commercial money earner in Australia, not silly drama and movies. Smart move by TEN.

  3. We really need clarification from ch10 on what they plan on doing with all their current only on HD shows.

    Also when will HD be available country wide as it’s been a year since they launched 10HD and we still don’t have it here in parts of QLD, and we are only a few hours from Brisbane!

  7. god this is horrible news, they are not taking advantage of the different laws in 2009 at all coz instead of having 3 separate lots of programming they will only have 2- just like now. there had better not be 1 second of sport on the regular channel after this, it all belongs on this other channel now or there’ll be hell to pay.

    why simulcast it on 12 in SD? just so regional people and those with only SD will get to see it? how about making southern cross get their act together instead!

    2008 was totally awesome with all the great shows on 10HD, now what will happen to these gems, go back to the regular station where people have missed a huge chunk of episodes coz they never got HD or disappear completely..again? i love sci-fi thursday, if they aren’t going to air these shows at all now can they give them to 7 so they can do a sci-fi night on their HD channel.

    this means that my HD set top boxes are pretty much useless, there are a couple of shows on 9HD and 7HD but nowhere near as many as were on 10HD, looks like i’ll be deleteing 1 and 12 from my TV, this is the worst news of the year.

  8. I know making assumptions is a chumps game… but anywho, I’m thinking Ten will dump all their sport onto One, which will clear up a fair bit of programming space, meaning the shows we’ve come to love on Ten HD will be back on the main channel.

    Bleh, Ten really has to clear up some of this confusion though. Plus, I was holding my breath hoping that One would be getting the NHL and MLB.

  9. How crap! I hate sports, thats why I dont have it on my Foxtel package! As if we need an FTA sports channel. Now where are TEN going to dump their shows to when they dont rate?

    What is the point of having and HD PVR or STB, if I can only see bloody sport! What about all my favourite shows, why cant they TEN (10) be similcast on TEN HD (12), and just have the crap ONE SD channel.

    I use Ten HD to PVR Neighbours catch-up each week, so I can watch it quickly and fastforward though the bad bits as well as a other shows I would rather see in HD.

    I just increased by internet download limits, looks as though I will have to increase further to download HD avi’s.

    Thanks TEN, good work, add another person to your list if people who wont be watching any of your three channels next year.

  11. Brad said at the end of tonight’s late night that the primetime edition of Sports Tonight is planned for 7pm weeknights….at the rate they are going, perhaps it wouldn’t be a bad idea to bring that forward to the mainstream channel!

    They can’t. By law, at the moment, there can only be one HD channel.

  13. I also wonder what will happen to all those programs then are shown on TenHD, like Smallville, Torchwood, Battlestar Galactica etc.?
    I have read Ten’s press release to ASX and realised that FINA World Swimming Championships (next year it will be held in Rome, Italy) is not included in the network’s new broadcast deal with Australian Swimming. Is Nine keeping the event?
    And apparently OneHD will show three NBA games each week. Everyone who follows NBA will know that it is played every day of the week during the regular season, except during the All-Star weekend. Ten should fork out more money and show at least one game every day.

  14. Well that’s rubbish, isn’t it?! For the life of me I can’t understand why they’re ditching the broadcast of regular Ten shows in HD for sports which, on the whole, nobody’s interested in (there’s a reason a lot of them haven’t been on Australian FTA TV before…).

    So from next year they can legally have 2 SD channels and 1 HD channel, all broadcasting different programs. This hardly seems the best choice. I assume they’re re-broadcasting One HD in SD on channel 12 to cater for those people who only have a SD set-top box and not a HD one. In time this may change, but I don’t see it fixing the issue of Ten shows not being shown in HD. Not happy (and very confused)…

    one dedicated 24 hr sports channel

    normal channel 10

    Current HD channel with some of the sports rebroadcast to fill the gaps between the docos and the HD shows.

    Does anyone else think this??

  16. omg!! if there is no tenHD anymore i will be very disappointed. Smallville, Veronica Mars, Angel, X files and the picture quality of hd is so amazing. The sports channel does not seem that great maybe if there was soccer

  17. o just realised ch10 have the 2010 comm. games don’t they?

    this will probably work well having its own network, the normal ch10 shows will be able to continue, or we can have 3 different events on at the same time. i wish ch7 was allowed to do this for beijing

  22. This can’t be right. There is absolutely no way that 10 will dedicate its only HD channel to sport. That is financial suicide. People will go to other channels for regular tv and movie 1080i goodness.

    Further, why would they dump their regular HD channel – which has some pretty damn good viewing already. I’m all for a 24hr FTA sport channel, but only if it runs seperately to their regular HD channel.

    I wonder if they’ve somehow managed to get a second channel license somehow??

  23. To clarify for everyone (maybe you should make it more clearer in your post, David >_<): One HD will take over Ten HD. Ten HD will cease to exist. One HD will also be broadcast on a SD channel as well. So, there will be:

    Ten SD
    One SD
    One HD.

  24. So the 2nd SD with be a simulcast of the HD and they drop the drama on the current HD channel?

    I was hoping the new 2nd SD would now be a drama channel for the shows they want to dump.

  25. I dont see why “OneHD” cant just be the new SD channel that they are allowed to have…… High Def Sport is a bit of a waste anyway…….. HD Dramas are way way more important!!!!!
