  1. More NBA basketball! More NBL basketball! Can we please have some NCAA college basketball too? Oh yeah, and English premier league football. No rugby league. That will actually gain a lot of viewers!!! Thanks 🙂

  2. Well, I spoke to 2 friends just now & during your showing of the swimming highlights & we agree!!!
    1. Your start time was 15min late (on a Sunday night) & preceeded by that unbelieveable self-wanking promotion.
    2. You cut out 10min of the 1500m – 5th or 6th fastest 1500m swim by an aussie ever!!!!! Obviously compliments of the same dim-wits who’ve done all those spoorts programs in recent years??? nothing!!! Self-confessed rocket scientists, not.
    3. general concensus over last few weeks is : if this was a pay channel option, and you received $$ for each subscriber … you’d all go where you belong – the dole queue!!!!

  3. Finally we get this, at least ten has some common sense by keeping up with america and england in the electronic/entertainment section!! Go Tennis!!!!!!

  4. I will not be watching this 24 hour sports channel….period.

Yeah!!! Glued to the TV watching sports around the clock is a great way to stay in shape.

  5. this is terrific news!!!! Anyone who is complaining about a dedicated sports network available on free to air television should get their fat asses off the couch and go for a walk if ya dont want to watch. If this helps get the nations kids into some form of sport it might just go towards helping the obesity epidemic. HD sports all the way!!

  6. Oh you don’t think they’d be that silly, do you? Yes they would!

They can keep transmitting the HD versions of shows on their main channel, and need no more bandwidth, if they do it like this:

    During HD Sports
    1______10_____11_____12_____Analogue
    OneSD__TenSD__OneHD__TenSD__TenSD(4:3)

    During no HD sport
    1______10_____11_____12_____Analogue
    OneSD__TenSD__OneSD__TenHD__TenSD(4:3)

    CK.

    To all those saying the introduction of One HD will mean the main Ten channel is sport free, think again. The AFL contract specifies games must be shown on the main channel!}

If that happens then AFL will no longer be shown in HD, because channel 1 in HD will be simulcast with channel 12 in SD. channel 10 will only be simulcast with what is on analogue.
I don’t think Ten would be silly enough to broadcast 4 channels of AFL simultaneously!

  9. I think Ten should move TENHD to SD channel.. At least they can keep all the shows like docs and sci-fi etc to the SD channel. And good idea the TEN is making a new 24/7 sport channel.. good job!!

  10. Unless they can squeeze those current TenHD programs into the TenSD schedule then they will dump them and you’ll have to watch them on Foxtel or BT instead.

The current TenSD channel is full now so Sci Fi lovers will just have to go elsewhere. Ten wants to be a sports network like ESPN and good luck to em.

  11. Oh no.. I’m very much worried. What does this mean for the current TEN HD?

I’m really loving being able to see Australian shows like Neighbours, Rove, Rush and Australian Idol in better quality.. on top of that I’m loving being able to see Smallville and the other various sci fi tv/movies and animal documentaries that TEN HD currently is showing.

Surely they can’t get rid of all of that stuff for 24 hour sport????

  12. Like another poster I hope they are not completely getting rid if current shows on
TEN HD. Its a reasonable alternative to Foxtel and have been enjoying the
    Sci Fi night on Thursdays.

Sport does not interest me. Was hoping the FTA’s would offer up some competition to Foxtel with the additional channels.

  13. I think its a great idea. TEN would not have jumped onto the 24hr sports channel if they hadn’t already had success with the showing of sporting events in HD- NFL, GOLF, NASCAR etc

The branding of the channel is no different to what all the broadcasters have been doing since the start of tv in Aus, name the channel after the number your press on your remote.

I think it will be a dissapointment not to get the channel ten programs in HD, but i am sure that TEN have a plan for this and will here in short time. Cheers, Tim.

  14. Look, I think One HD will turn out to have more than sport because 24hrs of it is pushing it. I like the SD simulcast in the short term as it will get some people upgrading screens.

Not sure why all the crying because Neighbours might not be in HD. Get real, a soap in HD. Sure anything looks better than SD but to answer some comments why pick sport. Well, rates highly, is suited to HD e.g. slo-mo closeups in F1, Nascar and NFL look great with the fast motion action. Fox Sports rates the highest and sport is One HD’s main focus. In the near future, some non sport HD (e.g. offseason breaks) would be great filler.

Ten might even crank up the 10 Ten SD for dramas / scifi / movies in HD now and then or even GNW for example.

  15. David,

When will ABC2, SBS News, 7HD, 9HD, 10HD(as it is), One HD, One, SD be included in the weekly ratings? I am looking forward to seeing this new channel collapse from its own stupidity week by week.

  16. On the brand, interesting it is “One” with no reference to Sport. So if the 100% sport model is not entirely successful, they may move to a general entertainment / sport mix. Also “One” is obviously seeking to capitalise on the channel number on the remote and Freeview listing as “Channel 1″ – easy for viewers to remember and punch in (much like Foxtel’s new 111 Hits”)

Seems like lazy branding but in fact very very smart.

Will “One HD” be carried on Foxtel HD? I think I remember reading ages ago Foxtel & Ten signed an agreement that would see Foxtel carry any new Ten multichannels – SD and HD.

  17. I’m surprised by this. Seems we will have One HD / Ten SD / One SD. So the main network (Ten) will no longer air in HD. That means some of Australia’s most popular shows like House, Law & Order, Idol, Neighbours etc will no longer air in HD! Instead the Ten has decided that the niche sports channel (One) will get a HD feed and an SD feed. I’m sure there are hundreds of thousands of more people that would rather see Ten’s top shows in HD rather than niche 2nd rate American Sport. This seems a very odd move indeed.

Because not all household in Australia will migrate to Hi Def sets and boxes Ten needs to keep an SD feed of the main network – Ten. But I would have thought that than main network gets the HD simmilcast and the new sports channel woyld get the second SD channel. Seems very odd and backwards that the less popular programming is the channel getting the HD feed!

I would have had “One Sport” on Channel 1 in SD / “Ten” on Channel 10 in SD / “Ten” on Channel 12 in HD

I would think it makes more sense to have a HD feed of your main channel. There goes any chance of Ten News or Neighbours or Idol being in HD anymore! There is no real need for a separately branded Ten HD channel – could have just been simmilcast with the main Ten. Like they do in the US (there is no “CBS HD” just CBS). Also Ten’s press release said that “One” SD would be separately branded and push to the “One HD” channel – obvioulsy to get people to upgrade to HD, only adding to the confusion! Does this mean modified logo for SD?!

  18. This is grate where i live i don’t get ten HD we get scten HD we don’t get sports on there thats did piss me off i love my sports put it on where i live in tongala it well make my tv better thank you

  19. I think we should just wait and see. The fact they are calling it ‘One HD’ and not One ‘Sport’ HD, means that it is not definate that Ten’s HD channel will be 100% sport (but I may be wrong). At least if too many people complain, then they don’t have to rebrand the channel to go back to normal programming.

The best model I think is to show 100% sport on the 2nd SD channel and to show a mix of normal programming and the higher rated sports on the HD channel.
