Axed: Lipstick Jungle, Worst Enemy, MadTV

Two shows at NBC and one at FOX get the axe, including a bright new hope.

They must be having quite a day of it in LA. The axe has just fallen on three shows: Lipstick Jungle, My Own Worst Enemy and MadTV.

NBC’s My Own Worst Enemy starred Christian Slater as a secret agent who knew nothing of his alias-self, thanks to an implanted chip that could see him switch from one role to another. It was one of the network’s big new hopes for the Fall season, and acquired by the Seven Network. There will be nine episodes in total, potentially allowing a summer scheduling by Seven.

Lipstick Jungle, another Seven show, follows the path of its “sister act” Cashmere Mafia. Starring Brooke Shields and Kim Raver, it was created by Candace Bushnell. In Australia it struggled to build an audience on Sunday nights.

Meanwhile FOX has cancelled the long running  sketch show MadTV, which often screens late nights on Nine.

Despite the end of its 14th season, co-creator David Salzman plans to shop the show to cable networks and other outlets.

“There’s a long list of parties that have called us, including a few very recently, and we’re going to start conversations with them very shortly,” Salzman says.

“We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished, we’re appreciated of what FOX has done and we don’t think it should be over yet.”

  7. Buying US shows has it’s problems, if they work in the US it doesn’t make it a hit here, but like Back to You, sometimes it works here but for whatever reason it’s canceled in the US.

    If Lipstick Jungle has 13 eps made and it’s taken off the air in the US then they could premier here, like the 3 last eps of Back To You did earlier this year. I just comes down to whether ch7 has plans for it over the next 2 to 3 months.

  11. Stevie, the 2nd season of Lipstick Jungle has 13 eps, they’ve already been filmed. Whether or not NBC/Seven air them is another story, now its been canned. I’d probably say DSM and PD will get the boot if ABC is indeed planning to axe any series, but then again they could pull a Terminator and somehow find another back nine.

  13. I like Eli Stone and Pushing Daisies, if they get the axe then it’s just another reason for 7 and 9 not to air them!

    What happened to ch 7 airing Eli Stone, they promoted it but nothing with just 6 weeks left in the year, ditto for October Road!

    BTW there are too many Craig’s here 😆

  15. Way overdue for LJ and should have been axed last year along with CM had it not been for the writers strike.

    The likes of DSM,PD and ES would be “on the bubble” as the yanks say.

  17. Launching a show on NBC in the states at the moment is like launching one here on channel 10, your pushing shit up hill from the word go as their ratings are dreadful…shame though, that worst enemy show sounded alright…

  18. I expected more axing this season, a lot of the shows that would usually have been axed werent due to the writers strike…”re-launching” them all this “fall season” was never going to work…”Dirty, Sexy, Money wont last much longer on ABC!

  20. What will ABC axe? I don’t think we’ll be seeing any for a while, Ausiello reckons Pushing Daisies’ fete will be decided in mid-January, unless they randomly decide to pull production on Dirty Sexy Money/Eli Stone/some other show.

  23. Indeed they are Richo! After all, they’ve given Knight Rider and Kath and Kim full seasons as well! Nervous about the ABC midseason cull, as I’d like to see Pushing Daisies and Life On Mars keep going.

  25. Its a pity about My Own Worst Enemy, I was looking forward to watching it but I wisely held off. Now I refuse to watch a new show unless its been renewed for a second season, so networks can’t just get my attention and then destroy it like they did with Moonlight and Journeyman last year. No point watching a show n getting into it if the whole thing including storylines are paused and stopped forever.

    Although, I made exceptions with Fringe’s pilot (which was horrible) and The Mentalist (which is a great show and will no doubt continue for many seasons). This will no doubt annoy Seven as they were probably riding on the Christian Slater show as a potential hit for next year. Oh well, at least Life got a full season, NBC are better than most when it comes to giving shows a chance and actually doing good for the audience.
