Rove's special for the US ABC Network, The List, landed last in its timeslot with just 2.9m viewers.

Rove’s special for the US ABC Network, The List, landed last in its timeslot. At 2.9m viewers, it was a long way behind The Mentalist on 10.8m viewers.

The special, looking back on 2008 newsmakers, was preceded by a Donnie and Marie Osmond-hosted reality special. It managed 4.6m viewers.

In the lead up to the special, Rove also appeared on Good Morning America, plugging the show.

  1. Watch the YouTube clips of ‘The List’ – quite honestly it sounds like 7 or 8 audience members are laughing at the material… The rest are dumb-founded by the stupidity of his commentary…

Sorry Rove, but you should be quarunteened (sp?) to Australian TV only bud…. We’re used to this crap.

  2. I agree with Wildeye. The kind of money we put into our shows would barely cover catering costs in an American production.

Of course Rove is a nobody in America, it’s cause he’s only just started out there. Just remember, just because your big in Australia, doesn’t mean your gonna be big in America. You have to prove to them you can make it in the big league. Like Russel Crowe, Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman, Toni Collette, etc.

Don’t forget also, we had an American hosting a television show, 3 decades ago, and he was massive here. Don Lane had talent, but had the smarts to back it up.

Give Rove a chance. He may just pull a rabbit out of a hat. He might just do it, at some point!

  3. Well points for trying, you cant blame the guy for giving it a shot, its not exactly easy, I think peeps are miffed at why he wants American fame, Australian actors and personalities seem to hold up the US like its a friggin holy grail.
I’ll say it again, Rove is just not funny, seems like a nie guy and all, but he is simply not funny. Everyone else on his show is funnier than him, and he has the top spot.

See, What the yanks call “lame” TV or “crappy TV” is the equivilant to Australias top production level, to them, our best stuff, would be there crap. Actors and personalities n all.

The only reason you laugh at him is because the audience laughs, the only reason the audience laughs is because they have people standing there with signs telling them to laugh.”

Opinions are opinions… but don’t make stuff up Freddy! I’ve been to Letterman twice and there was never a “laugh” sign of any type.

  5. Ummm, Rove is a nobody in USA.

So don’t blame him for ruining the show and making it bomb. He’s a nobody and people would be like, why is a nobody from australia hosting a show..next!!

If he was well known in USA as an Australia and a host/entertainer/comedian then the show would have done well..

Come on guys!! His first hosting roll of a tv special in USA as a nobody. Give him a chance!

  6. Did anyone saying “ouch, his comedy is lame” actually see the show?
I live in the US and saw the whole thing.

The show was terrible. It was terrible content, terrible format, terrible entertainment. It was the kind of cheap TV on E! At 4pm weekdays.

I also saw the promos for it which made it look very boring and unwatchable too.

I would suggest it bombed in the ratings because it was a terrible show. Nothing to do with Rove himself. The content and format was something ABC came up with. And they needed a fresh but cheap host to front it. Enter Rove. He’d have no say over the content. The show could have been hosted by Americas #1 talking head Regis Philborn and it would not have rated better.

The show was shit. Not the host. Americans love anyone with an accent so if anything more people stay tuned to due to Rove hosting then turned off.

    Keep it in perspective guys.
