O’Keefe says sorry …again

Andrew O'Keefe calls his night out "deeply embarrassing, and I am in no way proud of it."

Andrew O’Keefe has apologised for his now-infamous night on the town and thanked supporters for their messages.

The incident last month in which O’Keefe was filmed laying intoxicated outside a nightclub sparked front page headlines and even comment from the Prime Minister.

“What occurred was highly unedifying and deeply embarrassing, and I am in no way proud of it,” O’Keefe has told the Herald Sun.

“I can assure you it won’t happen again.

It was the second time O’Keefe apologised over the incident, already having said sorry if he offended anybody.

Returning to co-host Weekend Sunrise yesterday, O’Keefe also referred to the incident with his self-deprecating humour.

“I got everything I wanted for Christmas – a gift voucher to a rehab centre in Miami,” he said on air.

He also thanked Prime Minister “Mr K Rudd” for his public support before acknowledging viewers’ support.

“By the way, just on the whole thing, thank you everyone who wrote in with your letters of support. I really appreciate that,” he said.

“Except, whoever sent me that case of beer, I appreciate that too. Thank you very much.”

O’Keefe received a flurry of support online, including on this website, from readers, including after the footage became public via the Sunday Herald Sun’s website.

Seven publicly backed the star, despite suggestions it had paid up to $25,000 “hush” money to keep the video from view.

Last month Prime Minister Rudd also commented, “No one is perfect and most people stuff up.

“That’s life,” he said.

“The question is to be upfront about when you make a mistake, and get on with it.”

Hopefully, now we can all get some sleep.

  1. Totally agree – a non-issue that should be allowed to go away. It was never seriously newsworthy in the first place – let alone front page of the Herald-Sun.

  2. i totally disagree with this silly rubbish, why should andrew have to apolygise what he does outside his own time is his own business and noone else ,come on let him get on with his life and hey have some fun,he is entitled to that,he does work very hard with all those shows that he does and you cant tell me that other stars in the tv industry dont play up once in a while so andrew i support you,go out and enjoy yourself, you worked damn hard for it,matt

  3. Teehee Chris..
Problem with leaving it in past is that O’Keefe has loved having digs at others in media you do wrong things especially in the states.
Bit hard to throw stones when he stuffs up.

  4. I caught O’Keefe yesterday saying his mother had called the incident ‘gutter journalism’. LOL. She’s right in every sense. I am heartily sick of what passes for journalism these days and the O’Keefe non story is a prime example.

  5. Oh David, don’t give the Herald Scum the free publicity. They’re still trying to drag a “story” out of something that everyone except Liam Houlihan thinks was totally harmless. And I’m getting really, really tired of watching their transformation into the UK Sun (just wait, I’m sure there’ll be boobs on page 3 every day in no time – after they’ve run a few months’ worth of stories convincing readers that they want to see boobs on page 3, of course!) Look at the other day – “Ben (Cousins)’s Gone Soft!!” Front page banner headline news. And the story? Ben Cousins drank mineral water. Gasp.

Meanwhile, whoever sent O’Keefe the case of beer (if that wasn’t just a comedic line), well done 🙂
