Some interesting decisions. New Simpsons and Medium on a Friday night? House at 9pm instead of its traditional 8:30pm. An “encore” of Life on Mars. Fastracked Lie to Me.

But for a network that has been notorious for programming changes in the last few months it’s good to see it reveal its hand with confidence and clarity.

Can it stick to its guns once Nine and Seven reveal their plans?

Your thoughts?

  1. Oh dear, lots of fat people exercising and crying followed by lots of skinny people dancing and crying, I reckon come mid year there will be a few Canadians and lots of shareholders doing the same thing!

  2. I think this looks like a fairly stable schedule compaired to other yrs, especially Sunday and Tuesday nights. I do have a few problems with it thought,
*I think that the Friday night programs are a waste
*They’ll seriously run out of steam in the second half of the yr.
*Lie to me would have suited an 8 30 slot (although it should rate well were it is)
*Great to see Dexter in a 9 30 slot but it doesnt match with GNW.
*And OOTB only on once a week (althought at least its on).

  3. What a stupid move putting Medium and Simpsons on a Friday night! Repeats of Simpsons, fine. But new episodes? That’s just wierd. It feels like a dead time slot, much like in the US with FOX. They often put failingshows (mostly Sci-fi) on Friday nights to die. For some reason, with Law and Order, Medium and Simpsons, this feels the same. Looks like my IQ is going to be series linked to those Medium and Simpsons….

I also question having SYTYCD and The Biggest Loser running at the same time and often one after the other. Audience members will no doubt get sick of so much reality. I’m surprised really. Rather than even bothering with Master Chef, they should have split SYTYCD and Biggest Loser up at different times of the year.

  4. Certainly a lot of SYTYCD and Loser on the schedule. New Simpsons and Furturama on a Friday is an odd move, but probably a good one, as both shows especially The Simpsons have not been great in a long time, only a few good eps per season these days.
Medium on Friday is strange, maybe hold off for a bit so you show less primetime repeats later in the year. House should move to 9:30/10:00 slot with a better lead in, as ratings have lowered, and they can push one of their newer shows in that time slot. Good to see a new movie added to their collection of 6.
Good to see Dexter is on at a good day and time, and wont be pushed around the Sunday slot.
As long as they do actually start on time, people will watch, otherwise they will source the shows elsewhere.
I would expect some changes soon when Seven and Nine get a read of this and start to move their own schedules around.

  5. I think this is great line up. Credit to Ten for releasing this early but the real test will be whether they stick to it. Ten had an abysmal Friday night schedule in 2008 and the ratings reflected that. So I applaud Ten for the scheduling of the Simpsons, Futurama, Medium and Law and Order in those slots – a good alternative for those who don’t want to watch the football on Nine.

I am one of the people who still watch the brilliant Hugh Laurie play Dr. Gregory House each week so I am glad to see they have stuck with it all be it at the usually time of 9:00 pm. However, as the schedule tends to overrun by 10 to 15 minutes anyway what difference does another 10 to 15 minutes make?

  6. It’s as good a schedule as they could do

I love the Friday Night, Friday Night has been a television wasteland since mid 1995 (before this Picket Fences was on Friday 9.30) so it’s long overdue for some decent shows. The Simpsons reruns have been doing OK on this night during the summer so new eps should go quite well and Medium (my wife loves that show) is a logical alternative to Football.

My only question mark is the whole Wednesday 9pm thing – I’m sure they’re doing it to give House a strong lead in in the face of some pretty stiff competition on Seven and Nine (I’m thinking Criminal Minds & Underbelly) with the extended Dance eps and also to spoil people wanting to switch over to 9 or 7 at 8.30 – but it remains to be seen whether it will work.

  7. The first thing that jumped out to me was the new Simpsons on Fri. But it jumped out in a good way, because on Tuesdays I’d always be watching Seven or Nine on (e.g. DWTS when it was on Tuesdays) instead of TEN. Now I won’t have to miss any new eps. Nothing else really seems really wrong or really right to me, apart from the usual Biggest Loser, Dance and Rove, plus Devil Wears Prada which I haven’t seen yet and will def be watching.

Interesting to see how Nine and particularly interested in how Seven respond – and also in the accustomed programming “amendments” TEN will be making afterwards… LOL

  8. I agree with RichoTB on having new shows like Life on Mars and Lie to Me on at 8.30 instead of 9.30. I was keen to see Life on Mars, but 9.30 is a silly time ofr a first run show. They should be attracting viewers first.

WMC – I just want to see the the last 3 episodes…so I have to wait about 10 weeks for that, if it holds that long.

Friday nights maybe a good idea. Last year every thing 10 put on didn’t work, so maybe shows that have followers may be a good plan.

I like SYTYCDA, but there is a lot of air time.
Hope it works… I miss Rush though.

  9. arion: It quite clearly states on Monday February 2, 6pm that its a Season 18 Episode.

Craig: Why on earth would they schedule 90210?!?! It tanked and i seriously (heh) doubt that it will see the light of day in primetime. Ever. Supernatural and Burn Notice just can’t cut it at this time of year, not if Ten want a strong lineup. They’re niche shows at best and the way they rate, they’re lucky to get a spot in the second half of the year. Fans of the shows may disagree but sorry, its true.

freddy: Dexter is one of the best new shows in years. do yourself a favour and give it a go, but with both Season 1 and 2 (Season 2 is what’s coming in February) on DVD already, you may as well just get the DVDs, because you need to watch S1 before S2.

  10. Only one show in that whole lineup excites me: The new 20th season of The Simpsons, it’s a very weak lineup and will be slaughtered in the ratings IMHO-OC

  11. Ryano: The timeslot given to AFL pre-season competition (NAB Cup) on Saturday nights in February and March is a general guide only. It will be a mix of footy, repeat movies and/or program encores.

  12. New Numb3rs due in 09 but haven’t heard when.
H20: Just Add Water…. this is only primetime list so far and only for 3 wks.
Battlestar? Yeah wouldn’t hold your breath for shows that were on 10HD.
