Australia scoops TV awards in New York
ABC's documentary Jihad Sheilas was criticised from all corners last year. Now it has won a coveted Grand Award at the New York Festival.

Australia has won two of only four Grand Awards at the New York Festivals International Television Programming and Promotion Awards.
ABC won a Grand Award for Jihad Sheilas for the Best News / Documentary.
Southern Star International’s Meerkat Manor: The Next Generation won a Grand Award for Best Family programme.
In its 52nd year, the awards recognize “The World’s Best Work” in news, documentary, information and entertainment programming as well as in music videos, infomercials, promotion spots, openings and ID’s.
Jihad Sheilas made news last year when two women accused the ABC of deceit in making a separate documentary when they had agreed to an interview for Australian Story. Bali bomb survivor Peter Hughes also criticised the broadcaster for screening a documentary in which its subjects expressed no sympathy for survivors.
But the judges of the NY Festivals clearly felt the documentary was of another quality.

Woah, looking at the list there, surely the Presets win for the My People video is worth a decent mention!
