Gretel for Logies host?

They're not due until May but already the rumours on Logie hosts begins.

gretel_002News Limited today reports that Gretel Killeen is a hot tip to host the 2009 Logie Awards.

This would make her only the second woman in the 51-year history of the Logie Awards ceremony to have a solo honour. Wendy Harmer hosted in 2002, but copped a lot of flak for the job.

Other females have co-hosted including Fifi Box, Lisa McCune and Georgie Parker.

Yesterday Channel 9 refused to comment when Killeen’s name was put to them. It is understood Nine has been working on an exclusive deal to announce the Killeen appointment with co-sponsor TV Week.

According to the article, this year’s Logies producers are said to be trying to make the show younger.

Despite a push earlier this year by Queensland, the event remains at Crown Casino this year on May 3rd.

  4. So much love for Gretel, which I did not expect, but wholeheartedly agree with. It would be nice to see the queen of live TV back on the box hosting an event like this.

    BTW, I too like Shaun Micallef and Andrew Denton but I don’t think there’s much chance of that happening.

  7. Gretel would do a wonderful job im sure, However , I can think of another duo , who would be more interesting to see, and that is Mike Goldman and Bree Amer – from Friday Night Live.
    Mike Goldman , has a personality that is to die for, and Bree, is such a lively and energetic person .
    Would make a good show.

    Big Brother was clearly nothing without you. I really do miss you and the show. Hope she gets this hosting gig.

  10. Shaun Micallef is great – I also liked Andrrew Denton as well.

    You need presenters who get that laconic Aussie humour and not take the awards too seriously.

    The last thing we need is our own version of the rather stuffy Academy Awards.

  11. An extremely talented woman, it will be good to see her again, I don’t usually watch the Logies but I’ll sneak a quick look at the opening bits, the last time I saw Ms Killeen on the teev was on Bert Newton’s Good Morning Australia, if I remember correctly she was the stand in host…

  12. Her ability to roll with the punches of live tv, drop wit and get things moving would make her a great host.

    Only comment – make sure those BB stylists are allowed nowhere near her.

  17. Didn’t she get ditched from Big Brother because the “younger” audience hated her?

    I’m sure she could do it but she’s not funny or entertaining, she’ll just read the autocue. She’s a female Eddie McGuire.

  18. couldnt agree more, Shaun Micallef would be perfect, but if Gretel is second best, thats ok too. We could have had Kerri- Anne or someone worse (I’m looking at anyone who hosts a morning show)

  24. Forget Gretel. Bring back Shaun Micallef. He was absolutely hilarious when he hosted the 2001 ceremony and I am surprised he hasn’t been asked to do it again. We want Shaun!!
