The US sitcom map
A show's location is integral to its entire tone as this nifty US sitcom map shows.

Check out this nifty “sitcom map” of America which pinpoints key shows and their different regions.
It opens up your eyes to where some shows were set and reflects different sub-cultures when comparing regions. Location is integral to the entire tone of a show. Just imagine King of the Hill in the New England region? Doubtful.
Some of the shows on the map aren’t strictly sitcoms (Twin Peaks, Dallas, Northern Exposure, Magnum PI), but don’t let that put you off.
There is also a nod to New York sitcoms with a second map.

just quickly… twin peaks is a sitcom?
koverstreet – spin city was filmed in NY but i think it eventually moved to LA when Charlie Sheen joined. not 100% sure about this but i vaguely remember hearing something about it at the time
@ anthony ..of course most were filmed in LA but there are some filmed where they are set. for eg Spin City IIRC was filmed in NY.
mikey, Reba was on Seven.
Despite their supposed location, most of the shows would have been filmed in Los Angeles
LOL Reba. Sitcom. LOL :) Nine should replay it on their 2nd channel.
Anyone care to do an Australian TV version? :-)
Grey’s Anatomy counted as a sitcom? The current storyline is quite laughable but in no way would I consider it close to a sitcom.
Actually i guess Bewitched is technically Connecticut although the work scenes were NYC.
Funny thing is being a sitcom tragic i was thinking of this a couple of days ago. While watching a Home Improvement (set in Michigan) it got me thinking if i could find a tv show set in every state!
And Bewitched could be added to the NY map.
@Zambora this was where shows were set not where they were filmed.
Maybe they need a map for drama type shows?
David, any reason why some states hardly get mention.
Midwest and between Texas and Florida seem sparse.
is it like here in Oz, where some states are pro active in getting TV shows there
