Waiting to Lie

Enjoy this week's Lie to Me. It could be a while before there are more new episodes.

lie-to-meEnjoy your episode of Lie to Me tonight. It will be a few weeks before there is more.

The episode “Life is Priceless” was set for TEN next week but the FOX network isn’t screening it in the US this week.

It won’t air in the US until April 1st, effectively two days after the day it was set to air here.

As a result TEN screens a repeat episode of NCIS at 9:30pm next Tuesday.

The show is also held over for at least the first week of the Easter non-ratings period by TEN. If it is held a second week, it won’t likely return until April 21st.

Stay tuned….

  1. poor 10, for once they do they the right thing and fast track a show pretty quickly, only to be at the mercy of FOX, that seems to be the main problem with fast tracking. ooh and congrats to sci fi 4 a fantastic job fast tracking BSG, for once i had a few GBs of downloads left this month!! lol

  2. Love this show. I don’t mind the same formula each week…most shows do this anyway, it’s just how well they distract you while doing it! And Neon Kitten, it seems you haven’t been watching this show much at all…since Ep1 we have seen a little more into each character especially Tim Roth. In fact they almost need to curb it somewhat as they seem to be building to a revelation quite quickly.

  3. At least we can’t blame ch10, they are up-to-date with the US unlike ch10 with most of it’s shows.

Now Battlestar is gone what is the fast show we see here? Scrubs is only a few weeks behind.

  4. you can’t blame the Aussie networks for this, David was right, its a by-product of the Fastracking…but i also agree with the idea that more NCIS repeats won’t be good…it would have to be my personal number 1 show over the past few years…but I don’t want it thrown on at every opportunity…give the office ago in those timeslots… or something else

  5. Most of these shows are not shown some weeks because of sports or other special events, Fox in the US has basketball which is shown in primertime but this is the downside of fast tracking so close to the original air dates.

Ch10 was great last time actually giving there audiance credit and telling them the reason for no ep last time, I hope they do the same this week. Just a pity it’s listed in TV Week and other guides, they would have known this for weeks.

  6. TV episodes used to take around 6 days to make, which meant they could keep a pretty steady schedule of release, with only a single mid-season break in the middle (apart from those preempted by sports etc). While we used to get the series several months later, so we didn’t necessary have to deal with that break.

But modern TV shows are now much more cinematic, and can take as much as 10 to 12 days per episode to make, which means they need to have more catch up gaps during the season than before, and because we are often dealing with fasttracked shows, or acquiring by other immediate means, we’re having to live with this kind of patchy scheduling ourselves for the first time.

Basically, the Americans are used to it, and now we’ll have to get used to it.

It seems to me that US Networks these days are now trying to make it so that different shows have different staggering to their breaks, so that there isn’t a week entirely made up of repeats.

  7. At least TEN have been honest so far in regards to Lie To Me not being on and giving us warning a week in advance if it won’t be on.

I hope during the Easter non-ratings period TEN will keep Lie To Me going.. I kinda wanna have at least a little bit of TV to watch over the school holidays, lol.

  8. Survivor’s back on in the US next week, by the way – with an annoying clip show 😀

Interesting to note Jeff Probst’s response to the many fans complaining about Yet Another Damn Clip Show on his blog:

“Clip show – let me be clear – we the producers of the show hate the clip show. Hate it. It’s because of NCAA basketball. We hope you will stay with us and not miss us the next time we’re on Thurs April 2nd.”

As for Lie To Me, this went from being quite interesting to completely “meh” viewing for me, thanks to its use of exactly the same non-variable formula every week. The only thing that’s kept me interested at all is Tim Roth, but with zero character development even that attraction is starting to wane.

  9. The Amazing Race did air on Sunday (US time)… you might be thinking of Survivor which didnt air last week.

But yes you’re right that many network shows don’t run continously. Lost and 24 are rare examples of shows US networks hold back so they can run continously.

  10. at least we get an answer as to why shows are skipped now thanks to david. i wish we had almost like a disclaimer saying : “Due to poor ratings/ fastracking/ easter break etc, this show will not be seen tonight” then we wouldnt crack it when we got to watch it and its not on…lie to me, yep dont watch until the following thursday. David, what do you mean about the US skip shows, one week on one week off type thing?

    1. Many network shows in the US do not run continuously for their full season. They have a week off here or there. Even those annoying “clip shows” can be used as fillers there too (don’t seem to have been quite so many lately). This week there was no Amazing Race for example. Cable shows are much more consistent in running uninterrupted.
