Bumped: So You Think You Can Dance. Gone: Go Girls

TEN has moved on its Friday programming, following a dismal share on Friday. Enter: The Simpsons.

cat-deeleyTEN has moved on its Friday programming, following a dismal share on Friday of just 14.6%.

So You Think You Can Dance will now playout later in the evening, following an hour of The Simpsons and a movie. This week it screens Never Been Kissed at 8:30pm then Nanny McPhee and The Break Up in coming weeks.

That pushes Dance (this week with Katie Holmes) back to 10:30pm. As a result the NZ drama Go Girls is out of schedule. TEN was clearly gaining local drama points for this one, but it has to play between 5-11pm to qualify, as Out of the Blue does. Maybe it will return after Dance ends on September 4th, with Talia Fowler’s appearance.

Aug 21st
7:00pm The 7pm Project
7:30pm The Simpsons Hour
8:30pm Friday Night Movie – Never Been Kissed
10:45pm So You Think You Can Dance
1:15am Sports Tonight
1:45am The Late Show With David Letterman
2:30am Californication rpt

TEN is already fiddling with Dexter too, now out to a 9:50pm start tonight (thanks for the late notice, guys: 5pm!) with Good News Week running for 80 minutes.

  1. Thanks channel 10 – Go Girls was fantastic – I have actually seen the first 4 episodes on a flight from NZ earlier in the year but really enjoyed watching it on Friday night. It has a fantastic cast & deserved a far better timeslot.
NZ always take Australian shows, why can’t local networks support NZ shows by screening them in decent timeslots.

  2. Great job Ten – put on a show at an unsuitable time, don’t advertise it, see it get good reviews then cancel it. How can the commercial networks wonder why they are losing viewers when so many shows are cancelled? We get repeats of the Simpsons and Two and Half Men for the hundredth time and nightly repeats of Funniest Home Videos, yet so many shows aren’t even given a decent run. What rubbish.

  3. par3182 i agree because it will be better not knowing who the winner is when its basically everywhere on the news because the finals were already done and dusted.

  4. Ugh, that now takes Ten’s Simpsons count to about a dozen repeats a week (depending on city), more episodes than Nine flog out of 2.5 Men in a week.

  5. par3182: there is one more series of SYTYCD coming from the US later this year. Given the dismal ratings performance of the current series, I think Ten will sell the rights to Foxtel so it can show the program live via satellite, just like American Idol.

  6. Just great. The one thing that is worth watching and it gets shunted to 10:30pm. Talk about a crappy timeslot. If it were any other night of the week, bar Saturday as well i wouldnt mind but Friday night at 10:30pm?

As for Go Girls trust me to start watching another new show only for it to be canned.

  7. I’ve got this funny feeling that everything past 1:15am won’t be aired on the Southern Cross Ten stations. Nothing gets between them & their muched loved infomercials…

  8. @ George & Amir – having a movie at 7.30 or 8.00 doesn’t leave them with too many options, since they could only play G or PG. They really need to have movies at 8.30 so that they can play M rated stuff. That would be my guess as to why they’ve slotted the Simpsons in there.

  9. I think an hour of The Simpsons on a Friday might be the evenings best programming (and I’m basing that after looking at every channels line up).

  10. Simpsons? Oh TEN.. Please don’t start falling into your bad habits – you had finally learnt that simpsons couldn’t be used for everything!

Maybe have one episode of Simpsons, a movie at 8:00 and then Dance at 10:00?

  11. What’s the point of shunting Sports Tonight to 1.15am? Surely no one is actually going to stay up and watch it, so they might as well just save themselves some money and not produce the Friday night edition.

  12. Finally. Even if Ten only improves to 17 or 18 percent on Fridays that’s a whole lot better than bloody 14%! SYTYCD might even prop up their late-night share. Or not.

  13. good decision, i’m surprised it took them so long. my only comment is that they should start the movie at 7:30 that is what has worked best for them in the past to get a leg up on 9.
