Returning: Top Gear

In the first episode we'll see that moment when The Stig is supposedly 'unmasked' plus a race to Edinburgh.

tgukSeries 13 of Top Gear will screen on SBS from  Monday, 31st August at 7.30pm.

There are eight new episodes in this series, which aired in the UK from June.

Celebrity guests this series include Stephen Fry, Usain Bolt and Jay Leno.

“Since we were last here, the whole world has gone wrong and in order to reflect that doom and despondency, we obviously had to make some changes in this series,” said Jeremy Clarkson.

“We got that a bit wrong cause basically we drew up a list of all the things we are not supposed to do, and then we just did that list,” said Richard Hammond.

In the first episode we’ll see that widely-reported moment when The Stig is supposedly ‘unmasked’ plus a race to Edinburgh.

  1. Well the BBC ones are usually around the 60min mark, SBS version is at least 10 minutes shorter. I get there are rules and what ever to consider but that just leads those in the know and with access to watch them on line first.

I hope they show series 4 soon and maybe some more of the ‘classic’ shows as I’ve been recording them.

  2. It annoys me too Craig, but there is nothing that the international broadcasters like SBS can do about it. Even BBC America can’t show the whole thing. So I do get annoyed when people blame SBS for the edits and the delay in showing episodes. The fact is, when SBS started showing TopGear they were over two years behind even after skipping the first four series. Since then they have managed to catch up and are now only two months and ten days behind. Not to mention that they have found time to show two and a half of those early series that they skipped. I think they have done well.

  3. ETA – @stiggie – this is why many people see it elsewhere, sometimes the news is the best part! And I’m still pissed Billie Piper got cut from the S9 final when it aired on SBS, Thank God it’s on YouTube 🙂

  4. David I think SBS is just confused as there are only 7 and no special that I know of. But we can only hope, maybe it could feature all the ‘bad’ things Clarkson has said over the years… wait that might take more than an hour 😆

  5. @ Rob

Due to copyright laws in the UK which allow the BBC to broadcast any music they like without having to pay royalties, the version of TopGear shown in the UK on BBC2 cannot be sold to overseas markets. Foriegn broadcasters have to wait for the BBC to re-edit the series to replace some of the music and remove a segment (usually the news) to make space for ads. This is the “international version” and is the only one available to SBS.

  6. It’ll be a really good series, don’t miss it.

There are definately only 7 episodes. TopGear UK made the decision a while back to only make 14 episodes (down from about 20) a year so that they wouldn’t run out of ideas. They have been making alternating 6 and episode series but it looks like now they will all be 7 episodes long.

BTW, SBS’ online schedule for August 31 says in the TopGear entry “Part 1 of 7”.

  7. Yes and wasn’t the Stig stunt a let down…

So 31st, that means they are airing the last 3 ‘classic’ eps from series 3 first.

BTW wasn’t there just seven eps in the last series, unless I missed one?
