The cancelled list

Stocktake time. In case you missed them, here is a roll call of cancelled shows that are not moving forward in the US.

kath-kim11As the US Fall Season nears it’s time to take stock of the shows in the US that are not moving forward (including two Aussie adaptations).

Whilst many of us are up to speed on most of these, sometimes one or two escape out attention, and others kinda never get cancelled but remain in permanent hiatus.

For the record here is the list of those that are no more:

ABC has cancelled Cupid, Dirty Sexy Money, Eli Stone, In the Motherhood, Kyle XY, Life on Mars, Pushing Daisies, Samantha Who, Surviving Suburbia, and The Unusuals.

CBS cancelled Eleventh Hour, The Ex List, Harper’s Island, The Unit, Without a Trace and Worst Week.

FOX has cancelled: King of the Hill, Prison Break, Sit Down Shut Up, and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

NBC has called it quits with: Crusoe, Kath and Kim, Kings, Knight Rider, Life, Lipstick Jungle, Medium (moving to CBS), My Name is Earl, My Own Worst Enemy.

The CW has cancelled Everybody Hates Chris, The Game, Privileged, and Reaper.

In cable FX has cancelled The Riches; TNT ends Saving Grace; USA Network says no more to The Starter Wife; and A&E cancels The Beast (which airs shortly on ABC1).

There’s also a few other series we’re yet to see here including Reaper, The Unusuals, Knight Rider and Crusoe.

  1. Phew! i was starting to have a panic attack when i saw Medium on that list, but they are just moving, i wonder if that means they have the same script writers etc? if not i could see the quality sliding, i believe shows should quit while they are good not old & worn out (cough Simpsons) but would rather see it end than ‘jump the shark’.
Curious as to what would be a reason for moving networks? one not happy with the ratings so sells it off?

  2. Of that list there are only a couple I have feelings for. I personally liked Life on Mars, but I can understand why it got the can. I love Terminator:SCC, but I knew it was getting cancelled, but it doesn’t mean I’m not dissapointed. Eleventh Hour was good and I’ll miss it. Prision Break … well, I’m still on Season 2 for DVD.

Personally I’m happy that Fringe didn’t get cancelled … I quite like that show …

  3. of the ones i’ve seen. i agree with most of the cancellations. some of them went a season too long. esp. my name is earl, the last season so far is terrible, still not one laugh, which is a shame it used to be my favorite show.

if people thought k&k was bad they should check out ‘In the Motherhood,’ dear me.

as for what it means to australia. ch7 seems to have been hit hard, 16 of those shows were theirs. ten lost 7 while 9 only lost 6.

the fate of the philanthropist and defying gravity (both 7’s) are yet to be determined but it is not looking good because both of them are really good. defying gravity might be pulled off air.

  4. Pushing Daisies was one of the best shows i have seen. I loved it. Went far too soon. Loved Eli Stone also. Prison Break ended at the right time on its own turns so i’m happy with how the series went.

  5. Sad to see Prison Break go, but it went way further then expected. There won’t be another show like that for a long time. The only complaint I had with the show was the anti-climatic ending. Other than that it was a beauty.

  6. Really sad to see Everybody Hates Chris go. Tho, I guess by the fact I stopped watching half way through the last season is an indication it was time to go.

Now we just wait for Showtime to cancel Weeds? Or did it get good again?

  7. A lot of these cancellations were predictable. Low ratings and production costs are the main reasons

Without a Trace wasn’t too much of a surprise, it was known for weeks that either it or Cold Case was getting the axe. After 7 seasons the cast don’t come cheap.

My Name Is Earl and Prison Break should have ended a few years ago. Pushing Daisies and Kyle XY died before their time, and the rest never interested me.

  8. The only ones I will miss are Eli Stone and My Name Is Earl, the later probably just ran it’s course rather than being axed like a few of the other longer running shows mentioned.

  9. Of the two “science gets out of control” shows, I am disappointed that Fringe got renewed, while Eleventh Hour got cancelled.

I also wish Reaper, Pushing Daisies, and My Own Worst Enemy had survived.

  10. The only one I am upset about is Eli Stone… Love that show and it deserrved to go on … Thank god they have cancelled that dreadful Kath & Kim … and Harper’s Island was only meant to be a miniseries wasn’t it? It had a very definite ending… i knew it was him!!!
    Jack!

  11. Without a Trace was actually on CBS.

It was an unusual cancellation – perhaps the only time a show has been axed when it was still easily winning its timeslot.

  12. Any idea who might broadcast ‘Kings’ here in Australia? A brilliant show – pity it didn’t take off. Might be suitable for GO!? Young cast, contemporary themes, etc…

  13. Dirty Sexy Money – was worth a watch but started to get boring
Eli Stone – was very boring from the start
Samantha Who – had to watch due to lead actress ‘Christina Applegate’ – always remember her as Kelly Bundy
Eleventh Hour – sort of OK but nothing special
The Unit – got very boring after a few episodes
King of the Hill – quite good
Prison Break – needed to be put out to pasture, had a good run
Without a trace – slowly went down hill
    Knight Rider – soooo pathetic
Lipstick Jungle – entertaining but not special
My Name is Earl – got sick of it after 2 episodes

DId not see any of the others

  14. So many good shows on that list and so many we are yet to see in this country.

Will Seven ever show Knight Rider or the rest of Kate & Kim or Samantha Who? Will Crusoe be going to GO!? Will TEN show us the second season of The Starter Wife? The Unusuals was really good, as was Reaper.

These are just a few reasons why people still DL in this country…
