2009 Emmy Awards: winners

Toni Collette, Jon Cryer, Jessica Lange, Alec Baldwin, Jon Stewart, Glenn Close, 30 Rock & Mad Men all win Emmys. Rose Byrne and Simon Baker miss out.

tcThe 61st Primetime Emmy Awards are underway at the Nokia Theatre.

Neil Patrick Harris opened with a catchy Broadway style number “Put Down the Remote,” referencing lots of shows, stars and wry observations. Thankyou Hugh Jackman, Billy Crystal…. and it didn’t take long for the first Kanye West gag. Looks like Neil P.H. has it all in hand.

The evening is divided into genres this year, with all the awards from one category lumped together. It kicked off with Comedy.

  1. Yes TEN cut out a lot, it went from over 3 hours on Arena, to less than 2 hours on TEN, both with similar ad breaks. Why didn’t they rest GNW and have it from 8:30? I was able to watch the live coverage and thank god I did!

  2. I wonder how much was edited from the 10 broadcast because it seemed disjointed and rushed. I don’t have pay TV (won’t pay to watch ads) so I hoped channel 10 would do a god job since they were promoting the telecast. I wasn’t happy. Did anyone watch both?

  3. Was I the only one who was unaware channel 10’s broadcast was only “highlights”?? From David’s summary of the show, it sounds like they left out some good moments. Since when do we get highlights instead of a full coverage? That aint cool.

    Feel a bit cheated.

  4. MediaCurves.com conducted a study asking 500 Americans who they wanted to win this year’s 61st Emmy awards earlier this month. While the results found that that Fox’s, ‘House’ was the viewers’ top choice for shows nominated to win the Emmy for the best drama series, AMC’s Mad Men took home the Emmy last night. Although 42% of viewers favored Fox’s House’ for the best drama and 24% favored ABC’s ‘Lost’, the Emmy Award went to AMC’s Mad Men, which was the viewer’s third pick with 13% of the votes.
    Thanks,
    Ben

  5. I am happy TAR won best reality show but will it be mentioned in Seven’s promo for this week’s finale? (The award was for season 14) And will the ABC be allowed to mention Toni Collette’s victory in its promo for United States of Tara?

  6. the voters for the emmys are morons both Battlestar Galactica and sons of anarchy should have been in best drama the fact both of them where left out says it all.
