Close on Damages: “It’s the scripts”

Damages, says Glenn Close, is "as good as the very best movie scripts" she's done.

damgs_2_img_20_hThe inimitable Glenn Close says she is doing Damages not because of a lack of film offers but because of the quality of the scripts.

She also recently starred in The Shield.

Close told London Lite: “I bristle when it’s intimated I’m doing television because I can’t get any other work. It’s just not true.

“I’ve always gone to where the best writing is and when I was given the Damages script I thought, ‘This is as good as the very best movie scripts’.

“I’m always seduced by what I think is good writing and in this case it just happened to be a television series.”

Regarding the differences between filming TV series and movies, she added: “Sometimes there are so many revisions before the day of shooting and even on that day you’re given rewrites.

“I like what my brain does when it has to learn lines so fast. It’s thrilling to just go with the flow.”

Close is up for an Emmy Award for this series, along with Rose Byrne and the series, which is currently screening on the W Channel.

  1. The Wire and Damages are the two best shows on TV at the moment, and Nine couldn’t make a go (pun intended) of either of them. Thank God for iTunes and DVDs which make it possible to watch both these programs to best effect – back to back until you drop from exhaustion!

  2. I could be being naive, but aren’t the days gone when TV was seen as the poor cousin to a movie role? I’m surprised people are giving Glenn grief for accepting a TV role, when amazing shows with great acting like Six Feet Under, Weeds, US of Tara (the list goes on) are/now impressing us all? Meh to the doubters.
