Jay Leno show goes primetime on Comedy Channel

Fear not fans of Jay Leno, The Comedy Channel has picked up his new show after all -at 7:30pm no less.

jay_lenoFear not fans of Jay Leno, The Comedy Channel has picked up his new show after all.

And it will air The Jay Leno Show early evenings at 7:30pm no less (that’s kinda good news, bad news….good to get it early, but we’re used to seeing these shows when we can chill out). It will air after The Colbert Report and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.

The move follows the Channel recently advising it wouldn’t be picking up the show this year.

Leno’s move to 10pm in the US is a huge change to the American TV landscape. The timeslot has a bigger profile in the States than here and the industry will be watching to see how this shakes things up.

The new show follows his retirement from The Tonight Show, a post he held for 17 years.

For his first show he will be joined by friend and fellow comedian Jerry Seinfeld and musical guests Jay Z, Kanye West and superstar pop princess Rihanna.

Brian Walsh from Foxtel said: “It is a major coup to secure this exciting new show that has the worldwide television community talking. It is a ground-breaking programming strategy from NBC and we are thrilled to bring it to our subscribers just hours after it screens in the US.”

It premieres Tuesday September 15 at 7.30pm on Comedy.

  1. Agree with the following suggestions that have already appeared here. Have a separate talk channel. And get Craig Ferguson! They have so many talk shows but I only watch Conan and Letterman. Kimmel, Leno, Fallon aren’t for me but I will watch Daily Show and always the Colbert Report, which has been better than The Daily Show for ages.
Also, go widescreen! No-ones TVs will suffer for it. When I had a 4:3 tv I still watched things widescreen.

And do an Australian talkshow on Comedy / Comedy Talk.

  2. That’s good to hear, better than those most of those programs that are currently screening at the moment on Comedy at that time,a new show no more repeats

  3. Agree with idea of Talk show channel. Between Comedy, Arena and W, there are enough to fill a channel nearly 24/7 without even having to repeat. That would allow more content on the other channels.

  4. Too much talk for Comedy…. They have Stewart, Colbert, Leno, Kimmel, Conan, Fallon and Letterman… It’s all too much each and every night!!! Where’s the sitcoms?

  5. Excellent News. Can’t wait! And yes, due to frequent overlaps at 7.30 with other viewing commitments, thank God for the +2 channel (although I must point out, most are Foxtel now.

And can they please have the channel in 16:9 by then? Please?
