Returning: The Nest

The Nest will ask if we are a country of stressed-out workaholics, more interested in making a living than having a life.

nest2SBS’ observational series The Nest is returning this month with a subtle shift from its original premise.

When it aired in 2007 the show looked at families with adults still living with their parents. That was before Packed to the Rafters had hit our screens.

Now the second season will focus on three frazzled, stressed-out families attempt to improve their work/life balance.

The five one hour eps will ask whether we are a country of stressed-out workaholics, more interested in making a living than having a life. Australians now work the longest hours in the developed world. One in five of us work more than 50 hours a week (hand up here!).

With camera crews in their homes, observing them at home, at work and at leisure, the three families reveal the challenges and chaos of their hectic daily lives as they struggle to cope with demanding jobs, young children, financial pressures and relationships.

During eight weeks of filming the three families, a high-flying corporate couple with two young children, husband and wife I.T. managers and their teenage son and daughter and a boxing journalist / building manager, his working wife and their three young children, are given new routines and lifestyle suggestions.

Performance expert Andrew May encourages the family to lock away their blackberries and laptop computers (hand down here!), to make time for sit down family meals, socialising, outings, exercise, eating healthily and relaxation.

It returns 7:30pm Saturday September 19 on SBS ONE.
