Some spoilers: In the final episode Von makes final preparations to leave All Saints.

von-ryanSome spoilers:

The last ever episode of All Saints will air on Tuesday October 27th.

Filmed in late August, it will bring to a close 11 years of production, and 12 seasons of the Seven medical soap.

In the final episode Von makes final preparations to leave All Saints, while Adam, Charlotte and Gabrielle find themselves faced with a heartbreaking challenge. Frank gives Elliott an ultimatum. Mike’s test results arrive and they’re not at all what he’s expecting. And Steve struggles to deal with Gabrielle’s decision.

Appearing in the final episode are John Howard, Judith McGrath, Tammy Macintosh, Virginia Gay, Andrew Supanz, John Waters, Jack Campbell, Kip Gamblin, Ella Scott Lynch, Alix Bidstrup, Mirrah Foulkes, Jonathan Wood and Sapphire Blosum.

It will guest star Heather Mitchell, Frankie J. Holden and Luke Pegler.

Some time ago I speculated the final scene should be Von Ryan walking away from the hospital, turning around and taking one last look at the Western General. We’ll know soon enough. Maybe she’ll opt for a taxi….?

Titled “Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow” it will run for 70 minutes.

  1. They stick with All Saints for Eleven Years

However in that same timespan the world has changed How did they manage to compete back in the days when Ten had the OC and Whatever Nine used to show in the same 8:30pm timeslot long before Two and a Half Men amongst many other things not to mention those Greys Anatomy,Private Practice and Scrubs shows of more recent years.

Hate to say this but the Americans do this kind of show a lot better

  2. Well, I disagree. All Saints has only been merely tolerated for years. Impressive ratings, despite the odds and a network that clearly doesn’t think too much about it, as witnessed by the continual moving of timeslots. Until this year, Seven did not have a valid reason of axing the drama and only when the increase in budget came and the increase in viewers they wanted to justify their new budget did not come flocking in, did the axe fall. A network that is serious about its committment to Australian drama would have axed the costly MRU and the same level of viewers would have probably remained, thus keeping the show on air. They would have also made more of its series finale, rather than an afterthought ending of seventy minutes.

Seven understands that local Australian drama can rate very well if executed properly. It’s a business after all, and I don’t think because Seven manages to excel at Australian drama shows they have a committment to it. You said it yourself, look at Always Greener and now City Homicide; pushed aside for a flashy American import that has already seen massive audience erosion in the US.

I do agree that Seven has always maintained great local drama output, but like your last statement says, don’t confuse programming with production.

  3. David, just because the Australian shows lasted for years, does not mean they stood by them. Seven merely tolerated them. Exactly how many times has All Saints been shoved around the schedule despite decent ratings in its timeslots? Hell Sometimes All Saints wouldn’t start until 10pm after Dancing with the Stars finished.

Blue Heelers was the same, 7:30, then 8:30 and then the death call at Saturdays against The Bill. Hardly, standing by a drama that gave you so much kudos.

I’m not old enough to remember A Country Practice.

It looks like Seven is continuing its trend though with City Homicide. That had very impressive ratings in the beginning, that is until it was shoved around the schedule. First Mondays, then Sundays, then back to Mondays and now Wednesdays. Is it any wonder that the ratings are now around the lowly 1.1 mil for an 8:30 drama? I guess its an excellent excuse to cancel next year and save the network millions.

    1. I don’t think renewing a show year after year qualifies as tolerating, but we’re all entitled to interpretation. Seven’s commitment to local drama leaves the other networks in their wake, bolstered by the fact they have perfected an in-house model. They have had 4 primetime winners and a bit of an embarrassment of riches. Always Greener’s chop was where they slipped up, and history will tell if All Saints joins it. Don’t confuse Programming with Production though…

  4. Leith, the episode to be screened tomorow night (October 13) does feature a character from Ward 17 days – former Director of Nursing Joan Marden, portrayed by Kim Hillias.

  5. David, you took the words right out of my mouth in regards to Mike.

I think it would be great to see Georgie Parker make a return appearance as she was such an integral part of the show for more than half of it.

  6. Lyn, I fully agree. All Saints still had a lot of life left in it, which is supported by its consistent ratings in a difficult time slot.

Guy, it is indeed a sad day for Australian drama. A worthy series that has usually always maintained quality and decent ratings in difficult time slots. Though I do love the irony that since City Homicide’s move to Wednesdays All Saints has beaten and tied with them in viewers. The writing is on the wall with that series and I will not be surprised to see it axed next year either. Seven really does not stand by their Australian dramas.

After All Saints leaves Seven this month, I can’t say I’ll be around much more on that channel, which is a shame considering I’m in their prime viewing demographic. Well thanks Seven for producing a quality Australian drama for twelve seasons despite the erratic scheduling and ending this season four episodes earlier without it seems much of a sendoff. It will be greatly missed.

    1. But didn’t Seven stick by All Saints for 11 years? And Home and Away for nearly twice that? Another 13 seasons for Blue Heelers and 12 years for A Country Practice. How does this fit with not standing by their Aussie dramas?

  7. The Idea of Comedies to follow Packed to the Rafters is a good one.

The worst thing once they are done with Beauty and the Geek and the Amazing Race is a return to Medical Dramas for a Thursday Night in 2010.

Here’s an idea for 2010….PTTR AT 8:30PM Greys Anatomy on 9:30pm to fill the All Saints Time Slot and then a Double Scrubs after that to see us through to 11:30pm.

  8. It will be sad to see an original cast member leave All saints, she has been around along time. The Show has been around a while too.
A real Aussie drama going, really sad.
    All the best to them.

  9. I hope that the show ends with Von in final scene. She was only original star still in the show,so it would good ending too see her in last scene,She was great in this role, hope she turns up on our screens again in another series,

  10. I was hoping it would reference the past some more, ward 17 being re-opened, an old cast member starting at the hospital again but in a much more senior role, anything. I guess Von leaving will have to do.

  11. With this series gone Seven could maintain the blue sky television by airing some comedies? They could have something like

    8.30 PTTR / 9.30 Cougar Town / 10pm Gary Unmarried / 10.30pm Samantha Who / 11pm Scrubs / 11.30 HIMYM

Unless they replace it with more crap like Beyond the Darklands.

  12. It will be a sad night when the curtains close on this great tv drama. I can’t wait to see how it ends. It will be missed and has been a fabolous show over the 12 years. I think channel 7 will the effect next year. No other show that 7 have on at 9:30 rates over 1 million and sits in the top 10 or 11 every week.

  13. I’m sad that it’s finished.
I still think it had so many more stories to tell.
I’ll miss the characters & actors & the hospital.
I’d like to thank the cast & crew for such a wonderful job over the years.
I wish them all the very best in the future.
    They will be missed.

  14. I wonder Once the Season Ends If they will put on Greys Anatomy or Private Practice into the same timeslot for 2010 when both come back.
For Now though Why Not Put on some comedies into Tuesday Nights to see us through to the New Year.

  15. I can see the last episode being either Von walking out those doors for the last time, or taking one last look at the hospital.

I would like to see (although it probably won’t happen) Charlotte and Von reminicsing about classic characters like Bron, Terri, Mitch, Vincent and Luke.

TV week also hinted at a romance blossiming between two unlikely characters.

  16. I thought in another post you mentioned Von hitting Frank over the head??

But I do hope she does do the one last look at the hospital. Will be such a nice finish.

  17. This will make a sad day in Australian Drama. Seven axed the wrong show. It should have been City Homicide because its the one struggling. Dont get me wrong both drama’s are of high quality but the figures speak for themselves. I cant wait to see how the show goes out
