Nine says Daryl asked to drop repeat

Nine says: "At the request of the host the schedule was changed."

pdIt was Daryl Somers who asked Nine to withdraw its Saturday night replay of the Hey Hey reunion.

“At the request of the host the schedule was changed. We will consider showing it once the second episode has aired,” Nine spokesperson Michelle Stamper told the Herald Sun.

It reports the request was made on Friday night, speculating that the move was to not risk hurting the ratings for next Wednesday’s second special.

The success of the second reunion is believed to be pivotal to the show securing a future at Nine. But based on last week’s success it almost seems a moot point. The show attracted bumper ratings, critical success and an nostalgic outpouring from fans.

Many of those fans were incensed at the late programming change which saw a movie play on Nine on Saturday night, in place of the replay.

On the 275,000 strong Facebook page, which Daryl Somers acknowledged during the live show last week, fans were furious, flooding Nine with protests via email and phone calls.

One fan has since asked, “Do we owe nine an apology?”
