TV Tonight understands TEN will screen the variety special on New Year’s Eve.

Recorded last week at the ABC’s Ripponlea Studios, some of the guest list includes Tony Martin, John Safran, Lawrence Leung, Vanessa Amorosi, Charlie Pickering, Patti Newton, Brad McEwen, and cast members from Neighbours, Rush and more.

With more than a passing nod to Micallef’s former Tonight-style shows, it even includes previous Micallef-signatures, the High Horse and Milo.

With all the calls for variety to return, could TEN let Micallef loose on a new version of his former Tonight shows?

Set in ‘Micallef’s house,’ the special is directed by renowned comedy director Ted Emery.

  1. This photo is from a friend of mine who came with me to the show :)…..really good show, but really Bad workers/employee’s ….had us there from 6pm til 1 am and couldn’t give us a taxi…..long walk from Elsternwick to the city (11km) new rule…never trust a showmen

  2. “They couldn’t have Micallef doing both 22 eps of TBYG and a variety show. Would be complete overkill. Although it’s good to see one network has finally woken up to his genius.

Would like to see a Tony Martin variety show. He’s another genius.”

    My thoughts exactly, Nick.

  4. Excellent! I love Micallef’s previous shows including his outing on 9 (so sad when it went). Whilst I have enjoyed Talkin’ Bout Your Generation.. it is really just a quiz show, so I’m definitely looking forward to this special.

  5. Excellent news!

While if Shaun gets a tonight show on Ten, this would kill off any chance of Newstopia coming back on SBS, the more Shaun the better.

Let’s hope Inspektor Herring finds his way in somewhere…

  6. It looks like the old Micallef Pogram set. Looking forward to watching this, especially Shaun On His High Horse. I wouldn’t be unhappy if it returned on a regular basis either. And it’s spelled Patti Newton, I believe.

  7. Should be good fun, love the High Horse. Never liked Milo, prefferred the arts critic who was forced to interview the footballers, classic pi** taking of the typical footballer bogan.

  8. Awesome! It’s like the wonderful, criminally misunderstood and predictably Nine-axed Micallef Tonight getting another lease of life.

Going by the sneaky phone photo, David, I’m guessing you were in the audience. If so, a two-word review? 😉
