..and here come the Nine shows

Updated: Ahead of ratings Nine has The Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men, Without a Trace, CSI: NY, Cold Case, Getaway, 20 to 1, Customs, cricket and more.

Nine has now advised its schedule for the week of January 31st (sent late last night, possibly after confirming Seven’s plans published here?).

In the lead-up to official ratings it will return new Two and a Half Men, The Big Bang Theory, Getaway, 20 to 1, air new episodes of CSI: NY, Without a Trace, Cold Case and conclude Survivor: Samoa.

It also begins a new season of Customs, now narrated by Damian Walshe-Howling instead of Vince Colosimo.

Nine has one week of official ratings from February 7th before the Winter Olympics begin on February 13th. It appears to be treading water with programming to hold off its big guns until March -but we won’t know that for another week.

In further changes, Nine has amended programming for next Wednesday January 27th with two Cold Case repeats from 8:30pm and the return of Without a Trace at 10:30pm. This effectively knocks Waking the Dead out of schedule a second time.

I think the reasons are purely economic. I remember reading somewhere that an episode of 2 and half laughs, in fact any two bit US sitcom, was much cheaper to broadcast than a locally made production like Temptation.

Given that they rate similarly, I have no idea why, the profits generated by advertising revenues, per episode, is much higher for the overseas program.

For you average TV exec that’s a no brainer decision.

  2. Obviously Nine didn’t learn from last year and are still airing two and a half men repeats..

I reckon Nine should bring back CSI Sundays again, with the original at 8.30 and NY at 9.30 so that NY has a good lead-in . CSI Sundays seem to rate pretty well.

  3. Twenty Years Ago except for non rating periods Nine relied on Sale of the Century for their 7pm Staple and it worked back in 1990 now we are in 2010 and they are now using some unintelligent US Sitcom for that same timeslot.Shame really I wonder what Tony Barber,Glenn Ridge and more recently Ed Phillips and their cohosts would have to say about the change to 2.5 men.

  4. your kidding me right 9? If this is whats waiting for me at “Home” you can stick your “Welcome”. Same crap as last year. Almost Exactly the same crap as last year!

  5. Thank you Nine for returning new season Cold Case at 8.30pm on Wednesday night. I think it about time Nine changes the 7pm time slot. Remove Two & a Half Men altogether from schedule. All New lineup for 7pm – Monday & Tuesday: Top Gear UK, Wednesday: Top Gear Australia, Thursday: The Big Bang Theory & Friday: The Middle. After the olympics Mon 7.30pm Who Wants to be a Millionaire: Whiz Kids, Mon 8pm The Real Hustle & Wed 7.30pm – Australain Federal Police followed by Customs at 8pm.

  6. that warner brothers deal is good but for that amount of money, no way. the us newtorks are stearing away (or would rather stear away) from other production companies produced shows so they can have more control on the show and so they are cheaper to produce if they are produced in house eg CBS productions produces NCIS LA and The Good Wife which airs on CBS.

  7. personally this is what I think 9 should do after the olympics:

Sunday 6:30 Domestic Blitz 7:30 60 Minutes 8:30 Premier Movies (why waste decent shows up agains 7 & 10’s line up)
Monday 7:30 New Two and a Half Men 8:00 The Big Bang Theory 8:30 The Mentalist 9:30 CSI: Miami
Tuesday 7:30 Survivor: Heroes Vs. Villains 8:30 Underbelly 9:30 Human Target
    Wednesday 7:30 AFP 8:00 Customs 8:30 V 9:30 Cold Case
Thursday 7:30 Getaway 8:30 CSI 9:30 CSI: NY

and that way if one of their shows in the early evening (possibly Survivor … although hopefully not) they have Top Gear ready to replace it
