Will the real owner of this idea please stand up?
Is it possible Channels TEN and Nine both took a stroll down to the same advertising agency?

In copyright law execution is everything. You can’t copyright an idea, only the way you use it.
But even the execution of this 2010 concept by Channels TEN and Nine seems pretty darn close.
Both networks are using their respective graphics in promotions, slipping their corporate logo into the final “0” of “2010.”
Is it possible they both took a stroll down to the same advertising agency?
Even the font isn’t too dissimilar.
For the record, TV Tonight noted TEN’s use of the graphic as early as early October, so it probably wins on that score. And after all the year itself would suggest a tad more ownership.
Now all we need is Seven to join in the game.
The silly season continues….

The Ten graphic looks cool and trendy, whereas the nine one with those background colours looks retro 1990s.
@gerry says:
Nine should definitely change their graphics (again) back to the 2004 one. The graphis were amazing back then with the different colour each day, and the giant balls bouncing around, while the network’s presenters try and dodge them.
Have to agree, these were the best set they have had. It had all the plasma TV’s too. They should look at those for inspiration, not the ones from the 80’s and other networks. I mean how hideous and huge is the graphic displaying the show name when it returns from commercial!!
Nine Adelaide (WIN owned) use the same graphics, but no balls next to the Nine logo. They had a basic enough 9HD logo, but recently changed it to the one that the eastern states just removed in favour for the ‘HI-Def’ one. BTW, who says ‘HI-Def’ anymore? It’s HD all the way. With the Olympic rings next to the SD logo, and under the HD logo, they look terrible, and the HD one is now massive.
Even worse is nine’s new slogan “welcome home”. It’s just terrible.
Nine are such copicats. Ever since Kerry died all they have done is steal slogans and logos from other networks! Someone needs to knock some sence into Nine!
. Similar to what bindi said, Nine’s 2010 design is rather dubious because Ten’s logo is integrated into the design whereas Nine’s is placed into the zero. The slogan “welcome home” is rather dubious as well, it’s very similar to Prime’s “Bringing it home” and Seven’s old slogan “Everyone’s home with seven”. Considering that Nine have some of the most unlikable personalities on TV with the exception of the cricket commentators, Nine is like the television equivalent of a nursing home with all those old bodies who have lost their former glory and struggle to keep up with the times i.e Hey Hey, Getaway, Home Videos, Kerri-Anne etc. They’re even giving “chk chk” girl a hosting role in a candid camera prank style show a la Just Kidding with Steven Jacobs. Did they not learn their lesson with Monster House. Prank shows are so 90’s.
Nine’s graphics have been shocking lately. Some of the worst I’ve seen. They must have some in-house amateur doing them.
Is it just me who thinks the 9 version looks squashed and curved in an ugly way? The Ten one looks more straight and aligned. And besides, the 9 logo doesn’t incorporate a circle so it just seems irrelevant for them. Next up: ABC2 in 2022.

The Nine version is shockingly ugly. It have to agree that it looks very 1980’s.
Ten has a whole year ahead named for them. I say let them exploit that as much as they can.
Nine had that last year but didn’t capitalise on it. More fool them.
Nine’s tag line comes across as being arrogant… it’s not my “home” to come back to.
Not to worry David, if the past is any indication of the future.
.
10 will suddenly stop showing it without any official word, halfway through its scheduled run and will then promise to show it at a later date.
.
9 will move its use to some obscure time in the early hours between Guthy Renker and Danoz and then drop it as the result of poor performance.
.
Then the concept will be picked up by 2 and rejigged only to end up back at 9 with Bert on 20 to 1 for the “unforgetable 2010 newyear promo’s that no-one ever cared about” spetacular. Which of course will only be shown if the cricket is rained out and Eddie cant be reached to do something else.
Isn’t that the oldest marketing trick in the book, though? Emulating a rival to try and undermine their branding?
Ten aren’t actually using it on screen though so it doesn’t really matter, they’re using the block letter hell modern looking 2010
At least the ten one stays in line with it’s actual logo.
Another loss for channel nine and their lame 80’s graphics… bring on another rebrand!
TEN’s looks better. Nine’s is very “low rent” and looks silly. TEN has tied TEN into the “10” much better.
Both are uninspiring.
It suits ten better considering its 2010, nine had its year last year and 7 with “7 in 07”
Original thought at Nine died with Kerry Packer.
haha how awkward
to be fair, TEN’s logo is actually the circle with ten written in the middle, so nine are just lazy!
it looks a bit cheesy
Doesnt this remind you of the following..
Ch10> The 7pm Project VS Early Ch9 Title (i think it was)
Ch9> 08/09 Summer of Cricket VS Fox Sports NFL
..all copycat stuff. Only a few days into the new year and the copycat stuff is already in full steam!
Ch10 should have fancy things under thier 2010. ‘Please Watch Us!!’
Yeah, i noticed that. Nine’s one just looks stupid.
See they wasted an opportunity to used the other ‘0’ for ONE or GO! 🙂
Ten clearly had the idea first on their buyten.com.au website, im guessing 9;s spys found it on the site and used it before ten did on screen
the 10 logo has always incorporated a circle, so it makes sense, the 9 one is dumb. just because 9 couldn’t cut it in 2009 doesn’t mean they can try and hyjack 2010.
