If a lizard falls off Naomi’s shoulder will anybody notice?

The manager of former Today Tonight host Naomi Robson says he has been deleting entries on her Wikipedia listing he deemed 'libellous.'

Naomi Robson is returning soon to the small screen, the very small screen, with an online dating show, “The Naomi Show: Lovelife.”

The web-only show will dish out dating, sex and relationship advice with various special guests including Nick Giannopoulos, Krystal Forscutt and Tottie Goldsmith.

More recently, Robson has been fronting advertorial content for winemaker Nine Below (complete with a scientist in a white coat).

But questions have been raised about the editing Robson’s Wikipedia entry which has seen references to some of the more colourful moments in her career disappearing.

Media website Mumbrella notes that her age had been edited from 48 to 46, while info relating to swearing off camera, reporting in Beaconsfield, the chase for Wah-Wah, and men she had dated had all been deleted. A reference to the infamous lizard-on-the-shoulder during Today Tonight had even vanished (now that’s quite a feat).

“Guess who was editing Robson’s Wikipedia profile last Thursday afternoon? A user with the account name ‘Maxmarkson,'” notes Mumbrella.

Robson’s manager Max Markson admitted to the edits, telling Ninemsn the information was libellous.

“The problem you have is that Wikipedia is very, very false … it’s not fair on people and there’s no reason why there should be wrong things up there,” he says.

The entries were reinstated with a Wiki moderator Slac saying, “Max, be aware that when removing sourced content you should have a good reason.”

Another moderator said the entries were put back up because “there are sources to back up the instances and the section should not be completely removed.”

Markson said he would keep deleting the entries: “I’ll just keep taking it off and explaining why.”

At the time of publishing, the entries are all there back on Wikipedia’s entry for Naomi Robson.

And for the record: Naomi’s own production company is called Little Frog Productions.

  1. austvarchive is correct Naomi Robson did have the F Bomb autocue rant after 11AM finished going to air one day in 1997 and not on TT in 2005.
We were recording the news updates at ATN7 and waiting for script changes. The other person you hear is Stan Grant and not a floor manager.
Stan was waiting to do a SIMSAT so is on another vision stream but they can hear each other and they are talking about the back end news of 11AM which was cut down because of long live crosses throughout the show.
So some stories and RVO’s were dropped or changed that is what she reacted to. She is talking about a Producer who cut the news down as she was reading it.
The original recording did have vision and went for about 10mins in 1997 what you heard in 2005 was off a goof tape that had only audio but the 11AM logo.
I recorded the the whole swearing rant on 2 tapes as was standard to do news updates. You only got to hear a cut down version without any vision.
Naomi compounded the Urban Myth herself that it happened on TT with a floor manager in 2005 by apologising for it, again it was 11AM not TT that it happened on.
The outburst was not live to air but in a news update studio where only about 15 people would have heard it including the news Betacart area where it was recorded.
You would have never have heard about it if I hadn’t recorded it and the audio made its way onto a Xmas goof tape.
austvarchive is right in saying outburst, gaff, fluff, mistake footage of just about every news presenter is out there.
What happens on station stays on the Xmas goof tape for TV working stiffs to laugh at at the Xmas party and then feed out to other networks to giggle to.
This one just went a little pear shaped!

  2. I love Naomi and miss her from nightly tv. She made TT interesting. Anna came good too. Naomi started TT and it was firmly in #2 and helped build it to a solid #1 doing the unbelievable and knocking ACA off the #1 spot. There were a lot of factors involved in 7news’ rise to dominance and she had a part in it. I would watch her again. Is there still love out there for Naomi?

  3. There is now a new bullet point in the ‘Controversy’ section;

“On 1 February 2010, following repeated edits of the Wikipedia article on Robson, the ninemsn website ran an article detailing the actions of Max Markson, Robson’s manager, in attempting to remove some contents of the article.”

I wonder if this might disappear in a few days as well (assuming Markson’s IP hasn’t already been banned, which is probably quite a long-shot)

  4. but I think Andrew nailed it, just because he doesn’t like the way her past actions portray her doesn’t mean he gets to rewrite history. we all have to live with the things we aren’t proud of, we can’t just pretend they don’t exist. the mods made a ruling and he should repect that, what he is doing now will only draw more attention to the things he is trying to hide.

  5. the term libel is more of an american thing, in this country the term defamation is more appropriate, although defamation does encompass libel and slander. but

  6. At the top of this Wikipedia Page:

“A major contributor to this article appears to have a close connection with its subject. It may require cleanup to comply with Wikipedia’s content policies, particularly neutral point of view. Please discuss further on the talk page.”

I’m sincerely hoping this turns into the Barbara Streisand effect…

  7. KoverStreet,

I wish you were right, but Anna Coren has since got a job with CNN Hong Kong. I’ve seen her do reports (through CNN) on SBS World News of all places! There’s no justice in the world!

  8. I am the one who “leaked” the original naomi robson swearing clip, as have I the peter russell clarke one and many others. These all come from various network christmas tapes. The Naomi one never had vision, and was an audio feed from when she was presenting with Stan Grant on Eleven AM in 1997 as part of that years xmas tape. Various media have totally made up crap along the line which are now beleived to be fact, like that it went to air, and the outburst was on today tonight.

Also – tapes like this exist for just about every presenter on television or has ever been on television, – also 7 regularly fed the raw today tonight feed of naomi unencrypted over the satellite which any enthuisast was free to receive, all her private discussions phone numbers, everything….and they wondered why it was posted all over the internet!!

  9. Not only do I love everyone picking this up (talk about a media savvy manager) but even funnier is when I went to wikipedia and read up on the controversy, I found that it now mentions the edits and references a NineMSN article.

Way to go Markson, you really undertstand this internet thingy well dont you?
    Lolza!

  10. You gotta feel at least a bit sorry for Robson. I mean, prior to the chaser picking up on her and the whole TT team, she had a relitively good public image, and a good job in the media.

  11. I’m not up there with the libel laws. How can it be libelous if it is stating fact? It might be inconvenient for Mr Markson to recall some of his client’s past incidents, but if it’s true then he can’t think he can re-write history.

I always think of that Big Girl’s Blouse sketch with the magazine editors, realising that Kylie Minogue couldn’t sue them for saying she is pregnant if she really was… “so it’s settled then… I want Kylie Minogue knocked up by 5 o’clock this afternoon..!”
