And here are the top TV Theme songs as selected by 20 to 1 last night.

Two weeks ago I was hinting The Brady Bunch should have been #1 and it was. Go Sherwood Schwartz!

Bit annoyed CSI is on the list, it wasn’t written for the show.

But where the hell was The Ballad of Jed Clampett?

  1. ‘Welcome Back’ (by Jon Sebastian) from ‘Welcome Back Kotter’ should be on there somewhere – great song, and one of the few TV theme songs to reach #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

  2. It should have been 50 to 1. I found myself singing along quite a bit.

    But where was:
    Hawaii 5-0
    Peter Gunn
    Petticot Junction
    Mission Impossible
    The Jetsons
    The Simpsons
    MASH
    Fresh Prince
    The Beverly Hillbillies; or
    Star Trek

And you put Degrassi High in the list?!!

Everything else on the list was good, but I don’t agree with the order per se.

    Cheers was definitely the pick.

  3. how on earth could you not have on the inside from prisoner in that list good to see neighbours and play school there i dont think there would be a pearson in australia who didnt watch play school when they were a kid

  4. Half of them were pretty bad, it’s the second time I’ve watched this program and it’ll be the last. What about Get Smart, Hogans Heroes, X Files and going on and on…

  5. @ nathan – three actually..skippy,play school and neighbours.

I won’t quibble much with the list as everyones personal favorites can’t be expected to make a 20-1 of all time..but..I do agree about CSI..awesome show but the theme was just an old Who song although the visuals are brilliant. Would have taken that out and replaced with the iconic Mary Tyler Moore theme.

And one more..The Love Boat at #2..classic theme but not #2 ahead of the likes of Gilligans Island and Laverne & Shirley.

  6. I can’t believe this list didn’t reflect my special interest! This list is obviously missing some shows that I have watched with my peer group! I completely believe that this tome of popular culture will have a detrimental effect on my self-esteem until later this afternoon.

  7. It should have been a 50 to 1, and covered a good deal of TV. TV from the 50’s, 60’s 70’s 80’s 90’s and 00’s. Because there’s shows like M*A*S*H*, there’s one they forgot, Boston Legal a fairly recent show but still a good theme. Family Guy good theme, recent. I’m sure many of the celebrities could have sung the Family Guy theme. How do they choose the list ?

  8. How did they compile this list, probably at random. As others have mentioned, there are some notable themes that are more worthy of those mentioned. Surely That 70s Show, The X-Files or Dr. Who. And the CSI Theme Song doesn’t even come close, surely they thought they would just sneak it in being a Nine show.

  9. I’m happy some of my predictions made the list. Classic campy shows like The Love Boat, Laverne and Shirley, Happy Days, Cheers and of course…The Brady Bunch.

However, how Mary Tyler Moore can be overlooked or Hill Street Blues is a travesty!

  10. Only 2 Australian themes, what about Blue Heelers, Home and Away, The Aunty Jack Show, Kath and Kim. I see no shows from the UK, what about Doctor Who, The Young Ones, Dad’s Army, Yes, Minister, Are You Being Served or Black Books.

  11. I normally bag this show but last night i watched. Actually I didn’t watch, I let it run in the back ground as I worked at the computer. I had a nice sing a long. Noticablely missing for me was The Beverley Hill Billies !
