Renewed: Days of our Lives

Like sands through the hourglass, Days of our Lives will live on to a 45th season.

Like sands through the hourglass, Days of our Lives will live on to a 45th season.

NBC has renewed the show through to 2011. It started in 1965. The news follows the last renewal of 18 months.

Days of our Lives continues to be a favorite of the daytime audience and we are thrilled to keep it going through its 45th season,” said Marc Graboff, chairman of NBC Entertainment. “Days has shown year-to-year increases in key female demographics and remains both relevant and fresh creatively.”

Other soaps including Guiding Light and As the World Turns recently were cancelled last year after decades on the air.

The show still airs weekdays on Nine with an audience of around 130,000. Any regular fans round here? Care to tell us what it is that keeps you coming back?

  1. Please do the same thing that happened to Y&R happen to Days!! This show should be taken off without any warning!! There are better shows on than Days of Our Lives!!

  2. I was a big fan of the show in the 80s and 90s. I agree that Y&R is far superior, but i still check every now and then to keep in touch. I guess what keeps me coming back are the long time characters Bo and Hope, although there are few of the older one’s left. It’s good when Doug and Julie make occasional apperances as well. The thing that does bug me about this show is when they have characters from the same family involved, but they never mention their family connection. B&B is guilty of that too.

  3. I always preferred Y&R which surpassed Days in terms of quality and storytelling. Remember watching it with my Mother back in the 1970s and loved that many of the same characters and storylines continued throughout the years. Eddie replaced it with The Catch-Up. Another reason to hate Eddie bloody Maguire.

  4. Havent watched this show in years, but have in the past got sucked in. Fits into the “so bad its good” catagory. My favorite was when Marlena was possessed by the devil. God that was aweful! Loved it!
(how many times has that woman died only to come back to life? Im hardly a regular viewer but have seen her die 3 or 4 times!)

  5. Good to see Days still going.

Unlike those other mentioned soaps, Days made the hard decisions to axe some popular cast members and change their format slightly in order to meet reduced costs.

It would seem all of that paid off – hopefully it’ll last to see its 50th anniversary in 2015.
