Axed: Cold Case, Numb3rs, Christine, Ghost Whisperer, Gary, Accidentally

CBS has taken the axe to several of its long running shows including Ghost Whisperer and Cold Case.

CBS has taken the axe to several of its long running shows.

The New Adventures of Old Christine and Ghost Whisperer, both of which were previously expected to return are gone.

But Warner Bros. TV is expected to shop Christine to ABC, which has shown interest in the past.

Cold Case saw its audience drop below 10 million viewers this season.  It only just survived the ace twelve months ago. Expensive music rights have also prevented the show from being released on DVD.

Gary Unmarried, Accidentally on Purpose and Miami Medical were also not renewed.

Numb3rs has actually been cancelled for some time, as the show ended its run and its stars went off to star in new pilots.

Rules of Engagement and Medium have been renewed. Some good news anyway…

  1. wow, even crime shows are getting the axe – Numbers, Cold Case, Law & Order and last year Without A Trace. theres still plenty left, I didn’t mind Gary Unmarried, its way better then Christine and Rules of Engagement! I guess Gary will stay unmarried 😉 poor Elfman, after Dharma and Greg her shows seem to keep getting axed like one that Ten aired a few years ago. Poor Seven, they are loosing a heaps this year! you have got to wonder what the hell networks are thinking when axing some of these shows, most are quite popular.

  2. Cold Case and Numb3rs were two of my favourites but I’m fine to see them go. They both had good runs and it seems like they both got the chance to end properly.

  3. I still really enjoy The New Adventures of old Christine. Julia Louis-Dreyfus is one of the best physical comedians out there. What a talent. I really hope they can come to some arrangement to keep it on the air.

  4. Great news about Medium. I’m with you alvar, Ghost Whisperer jumped the shark when they “killed off” Jim… I guess Alison will have to help out all those ghosts Melinda won’t be around for anymore…

  5. I’ve kept watching GW, but after the jaw dropping shocker of the season one finale, it has never been the same again. So many favourite shows gone this year: Lost, Heroes, GW, Melrose Place, Ugly Betty and FlashForward – thank goodness I still have Doctor Who, Desperate Housewives, Smallville, Supernatural, Survivor and Glee! Might be easier to keep up with the shows next season. I’m taking an oath not to watch any new shows next year (I only get disappointed when they’re cancelled before their time).

  6. I am glad that “Rules of Engagement” got renewed. I absolutely love that show.
When is TEN showing the new series?
Pity about “Accidently on Purpose” and “Gary Unmarried”.

  7. Elise, yes you would think so…. but the music industry isn’t know for it’s rational behaviour when it comes to these things.

Madame Tango. Mmmm, Jeremy Northam… yes that’s a shame, although to be honest I think he’s better than that show sounded.

  8. cant believe that gary unmarried lasted for 2 whole seasons. good riddance as it is one of the worst shows i’ve ever seen on primetime tv.

  9. i have lost interest in ghost whisperer. seasons 1-3 were brilliant, after that the storyline kinda lost the plot.
it also doesn’t help that channel 7 have never given this show the treatment it deserves, constantly changing the timeslots, on again, off again. and it has rated reasonably well.

  10. I am not happy with CBS at the moment. Cancelling Ghost Whisperer was a mistake. I am praying that there are talks going on about it returning to ABC mid-season or as a change in the schedule, considering that ABC Studio’s does create the show. I am guessing Medium was saved because it is in house. If you look at it they are all from out house of the CBS Paramount Studio’s.

  11. I still don’t understand why music rights are so expensive for dvd releases. (The dvd release of “Tour of Duty” suffered badly) I know that if I hear a song I like on any TV show, I go and buy it on iTunes. Surely more exposure for the song means more music sales?

  12. Farout this has to be one of the most massacred TV show seasons in quite some time, a lot of once big name shows have been axed across all networks.

  13. Thank god for Rules of Engagement. I love that show. If they keep getting renewed for 13 episode seasons they might be safe from people getting sick of it.

  14. I was looking forward to Miami Medical (Bruckenheimers latest) starring Jeremy Northam. It had a solid following and was building and did I mention Jeremy Northam?

  15. Pity Gary Unmarried and Accidentally on Purpose are gone, there were a guilty pleasure, but Rules of Engagement is returning? How is that any better?

Pity Ghost Whisperer didn’t make the cut, I wasn’t a huge fan but it was still nice to watch Jen. Julia Louis-Dreyfus was on Ellen the other day and yes ABC might pick up The New Adventures of Old Christine but again how is that any better than Gary Unmarried or Accidentally on Purpose?

It’s a pity Cold Case is not on DVD just because of the classic music used.
