No more Kath & Kim?

Uh oh....Jane Turner says "the well is dry" on new Kath & Kim ideas, but there's a glimmer of hope for Prue & Trude.

Currently performing on the West End in the Aussie play Holding the Man, Jane Turner has given an interview to the UK press.

Naturally it touched on her legendary performances as Kath Day-Knight and asked about any likelihood of a new season for Kath and Kim.

“We sort of felt like it was the end two years ago. We thought, ‘We’ve done enough and the well is dry and we can’t think of any more ideas’ … We think we might just leave it for now,” she says.

Of course, the girls could always come back to it if they were motivated by new ideas.

But she doesn’t rule out a potential spin-off for Prue and Trude.

“I know we’ve actually got a really good idea for them but I don’t know if it’s going to make a whole series. They’re not as easy to write for – they’re a little bit more one-dimensional than Kath and Kim. We could try and give them some tragedy in their lives, some drama.”

There have been previous reports of a ‘travelogue-style’ show for the two society ladies.

Turner was also asked about her thoughts on the US adaptation of their sitcom.

“It wasn’t quite what we envisaged. I mean, we were EPs on it, but they just tried to take it in a different direction. The scripts were OK, maybe the casting wasn’t quite right,” she says.

“I mean, John Michael Higgins, who played Kel, was fabulous but I’m not sure the girls were allowed to be as funny as they could be. I don’t know, the elements didn’t quite gel together. I think they were trying to turn it into a sitcom – they wanted a long-running Friends-type arrangement and it’s more of a comedy show.”

Lastly, she also touched upon her role in Prisoner: “Yeah I played a small part – 16 episodes. I played a blind ex-prostitute [who was] a gun-running murderer – so real!”

Turner and Riley have previously mentioned the idea of a stage musical starring the foxy ladies. With Riley’s singing voice it would be a natural fit and a sellout show. Bring it on.

  1. This Show has Run It’s Course. This Show should have been the one that got the axe not Cougar Town or How I met your Mother. The Concept is outdated

  2. Anyone who’s seen Big Girls Blouse and the sketch “Entrepeneurs Wives On The Run” would know how well a show with Pru and Trude could work if done right…

  3. To be honest, i liked the US show. I think she’s right it isn’t a sitcom 20 ep a year type show, but it was funny for the most part.

  4. I thought Kath & Kim was great…but i think they did mine all of the potential storylines from it in the work they’ve already done. A stage musical could definitely work though!

Prude & Trude would just get annoying after 5 minutes, I think…if 7 wants a new comedy, they should just commission something new. We’re out of the recession now, get spending on comedy networks! Aussies love it!

  5. The last series definately had lost some of it’s sparkle, but there’s nothing wrong with a couple of telemovies sans Da Kath & Kim Code eh girls? As for Prue & Trude, love em but a whole series just would’nt seem likely.

  6. Noooooooooooo! What happened to all the news over the past year they were half-way through a new season and had ideas about another movie. That’s really disappointing news because I don’t like Prude and trude, they arn’t even funny.

  7. i love this. not that i liked/disliked Kath and Kim, i like how this screws over channel 7. heres hoping top gear ends for the same reason.
