Damages saved from axe

Satellite network DirecTV has reached a deal to acquire Damages for two additional seasons each consisting of 10 episodes.

Emmy-winner Damages has been thrown a lifeline, spared from the axe thanks to US satellite network DirecTV.

DirecTV has reached a deal with Sony Pictures Television to acquire Damages for two additional seasons each consisting of 10 episodes from FX.

The deal for the Glenn Close-Rose Byrne drama will see new seasons in 2011 and 2012 respectively.

Unlike DirecTV’s arrangement with NBC for Friday Night Lights, Damages will only air on DirecTV. It has also acquired the rights to Damages‘ first 3 seasons, which ran on FX.

“We’re excited to partner with Sony Pictures Television as we breathe new life into this outstanding drama,” said Patty Ishimoto, from DirecTV. “It’s a win for our customers because only they will be able to see these new episodes and another great step forward for DirecTV as we continue to build our growing portfolio of exclusive, award winning programming.“

FX president John Landgraf added: “FX was very proud to have developed one of the best scripted series on television, but, in order to have a future, the show needed DirecTV and we are thrilled they stepped in. Sony Pictures Television is a great production partner and we at FX Productions are excited for these next two seasons.”

DirecTV rescued Friday Night Lights from imminent demise, as well as playing Passions after it left NBC and even aired Underbelly.

Hurrah! Patty Hewes lives!

Season Three is currently airing in Australia on W.

  1. Fantastic, this has to be my favourite Glenn Close role to date she is perfect. I really like this show great writing and acting, Fail Whale speak for yourself there are plenty of people who care about this news. I am currently enjoying season 3 on Foxtel so not to many spoilers from the downloaders.

  2. I’m with you Jason!

It will be interesting to see where they go from here, as Season 3 had such a well wrapped up finale, that brought it right back to the beginning.

But two more seasons is great news! You beauty!!

  3. There are some strange people about – yes, looking at you Fail Whale!
Damages is a great series, much better than most of the rubbish which rates well here. I am one of those people very happy to hear it will be back.

  4. Awesome news. A bit disappointed that it will only be 10 eps a season, as that would be hard to tell a good story however I’m ecstatic it hasn’t been cancelled.
Can DirecTV please announce more FNL too.
