GO! look somewhere else

More disappointing scheduling from GO! leaves Chuck, Gossip Girl and Eastwick out in a dead zone and digital channels forget their agenda.

No easy way to say this…. GO! is really losing the plot.

It started with such currency from the audience and it is throwing it away.

The lastest amendments bump prime time first run episodes for movies, leaving only late night runs for frustrated fans.

Eastwick now only screens at 12:30am Wed (Tue night) replaced next week with Seinfeld and on July 13 with the moie Beauty Shop.

On Wed July 14 Chuck only screens at midnight, replaced by the movie When a Stranger Calls.

On Thursday July 15 Gossip Girl is repaced by Snakes on a Plane at 10:35pm.

If you really want to see these shows, perhaps GO! would prefer you sign up for Pay TV.

These digital channels were supposed to offer alternative viewing, but in the ratings battle they are increasingly being perceived by networks as a means to giving a network the edge of its rivals. The end result is that the commitment to unique programming diminishes while networks chase a short team spike.

Update: Eastwick now out Tue July 13, moved to also 12am Thu July 15 (Wed night). Good luck keeping track of it.

  1. I thought GO was going to get rid of Home Shopping in May? But it still graces our screens between 2 and 4am. I choose that moment as when GO lost its way, personally.

  2. Good to see the movie When A Stranger Calls but I just hope it’s the original and not the remake. They don’t seem to show movies like that anymore.

  3. Not even 7TWO Makes these amount of scheduling changes. I’ve given up on Go! and now resorted to other means to get up to date with my shows. GO! has now been officially canned in my viewing habits.

  4. I heard an ad on the radio yesterday for 180GB for $49.99 plus only $1 extra for a home phone line. (TPG)
With deals like that we don’t need to bother with FTA!
When 10 first had their digital station it was great, then it switched to sport & I haven’t been back.
Go and 7-2 started off OK, but soon reverted to form.
I love Pay TV and my broadband ADSL2.

  5. they also seem to be drifting further and her away from their original premise of being a youth channel.

so many of the shows i watch on GO! have been taken out, the middle is also now gone from it’s thursday slot just before new episodes were about to start. i just hope community stays there, but won’t cut on it.

  6. I’m sorry – you want nine to treat their audiences better? Since when have nine ever had Any regard for what their audience might want?

  7. I liked Seinfeld, but enough already!

GO! started out pretty good, and now they are just playing the same old stupid scheduling games of the main channel and driving their viewers away to the Internet and/or DVD.

    Nice going, idiots!

  8. I totally agree. At the beginning I could set the DVR and each week record with no worries, now I have to search for the things I like and it seems once again the Home Shopping has replaced repeats in the early am. Really, I might as well buy a boxed set and be done with it.

  9. No surprises there… most of these shows are well over 12 months old, in the case of Chuck 3+ years! Gossip Girl and Chuck are even on DVD already. But this is still a channel programmed by Nine, so if nothing else that should be the biggest key to this move. Like those movies would rate any better though…

  10. I thought GO was great when it first started, screening all these good shows that Nein couldn’t be bothered with because (according to them) they didn’t rate well enough. Lately, though, it’s turned into little more that a clone of it’s big brother, which means no programming consistency, shows changing time slots or being dropped completely without warning, relying too heavily on a couple of popular shows to keep the ratings going (how many times can they recycle the same handful of The Big Bang Theory episodes? See Two and a Half men for that answer!) and absolutely no regard for their viewers. Guess it’s time for me to upgrade my internet plan.

  11. It’s all about the size contest, just like it’s always been. Anyone who thought these out-of-touch, blinkered networks were going to offer reliable programming on their extra digital channels was kidding themselves.

And no, it’s not pay TV they’re going to lose more audience to.

  12. They should take the digital channels out of the equation in the total ratings measurements. Keep the main channels ratings measurements separate from the multti-channel ratings and these shows might stay on screen.

  13. Free TV will soon have to pull their ads off air for misleading and incorrect information – more choice! Yeah right, who are they kidding besides themselves. My EFOYS purchase of Foxtel just suddenly got alot better!

  14. Yep, Free to Air just keeps getting worse. I dont think anyone needs to be reminded why Austalians are one of the top countries that have to obtain their shows from other sources.

  15. Not to mention that they only showed half of Gossip Girl season one. Or maybe they showed the whole thing but at Ridiculous O’clock in the morning. This is why we call their parent network Nein!

  16. I would disagree about joing PayTV for them as Chuck finished about 6 months ago and we are still to be told when the next season will start. FOX8 have a habit of not showing shows from the U.S. until they are nearly finished there. I Believe (not completely sure) Gossip Girl is also on break and Eastwick havent got PayTV broadcasting rights. I am unable to get GO! (I live in Griffith, NSW which is a black-spot) but I am not suprised that GO! have gone against their channels aim to get ratings, WIN have been doing that for years.

  17. Stupid GO!/Nine the delay is some shows is ridicules and now this!

Yesterday Gossip Girls “Chuck” was on Seven’s Sunrise and then The Morning Show, you get the feeling they would have treated the show much better than Nine.

Seriously, Snaked on a Plane! didn’t it win a Razzie a few years back?

  18. GO really infuriates me; there is so many scheduling conflicts it just isn’t funny. I honestly believed the networks would be using these channels for shows with a small fan-base not big enough to screen on the main channel.

Instead fans have been treated like absolute crap.

If the freeview brand is wanting to actually capture the audience our networks need to be prepared to playout low rating shows even by digital standards; right now 7two and Go are only serving as an extension of the networks to get ratings glory.

It also further cements the reasoning behind why the digital channels should be completely exluded from being joined to the primary network when it comes to shares. OZTAM should be treating GO no differently as to if it were channel 9 or 7 or 10, then we might actually get some consistency with programming.

The networks wonder where audiences go; why would we sit and watch a program with commercials on your network when the schedule chops and changes every day; there are so many better alternatives that suit the audience which means we can watch when we want to.

Maybe treating the audience better would help eliminate some of this.

    Pathetic.
