Auditions: The Amazing Race Australia

Seven confirms a local version of The Amazing Race. And yes, contestants will be racing around the world.

Channel Seven has now confirmed an Australian version of The Amazing Race, featuring Aussies travelling around the world.

The announcement follows earlier media speculation that a deal was being negotiated with Disney.

“The US version of The Amazing Race has had a huge following on Seven and we are thrilled to be working with Disney on The Amazing Race Australia which promises to capture the excitement of the original series,” said Brad Lyons, Seven’s Head of Production.

“Audiences in Australia have shown an enormous appetite for high-quality, locally produced shows in recent years. The Amazing Race Australia is another great milestone in our long-standing relationship with Channel Seven in bringing programs that resonate with viewers here,” said Rob Gilby, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, Disney Media Distribution Asia Pacific.

Regional versions have already been produced in Asia, Brazil, China, Israel and Latin America.

The series will be produced in conjunction with Active TV, which already produces The Amazing Race Asia.

Applications are already open for teams of two, aged 18 or over. Team members must have a pre-existing personal relationship. e.g. friends, relatives, partners, colleagues etc. Update: Now 21 years of age minimum.

And presumably be ready to show they can be ignorant Aussie tourists in a foreign country too….

On offer is a “massive cash prize.”

Entries close September 6th.

Last team to check in may be eliminated.

  1. Jason I loved The Mole as well.

ALso interested in who would be hosting it. Can’t imagine TAR with anyone other than Phil.

  2. This sounds like an excellent idea. About time too. All I can say is, I hope it won’t be hosted by Tom Williams. Please, please, anyone but him.

  3. @Zelda and Rick S.

Rumour has it that it may be Phil Keoghan from the original US version. He is a kiwi and he is in talks. I dont know who else could host this show from this country. The only person i see that could do it is Tom Williams and well i dont want him!

  4. Our version of Survivor didn’t do too well so this won’t last long. It will be very expensive to produce and I think ch 7 are getting ahead of themselves a bit.

  5. Let me guess, it’s hosted by Mel & Kochie or Grant Denyer? Or some other Sunrise douche.

  6. Can’t wait to see this one! However, The Amazing Race costs a lot of money to produce, so sponsorship is crucial. Expect to see major airlines and travel websites (like Travelocity for the US version) to become partners in the Australian version.

  7. This will be funny. Seeing Aussies dealing with other cultures.

Aussies are just as bad as Americans!!

  8. This is great, I love The Amazing Race. I would rather prefer The Mole to return, however, an Australian version of The Amazing Race would still be good viewing.

  9. The more TAR the better, as long as Seven still shows concurrent US seasons and doesn’t replace them with local TAR, like Nine did with Survivor Marquesas and Survivor Australia.

  10. Finally! I can’t believe how excited I am about this. I’d been spending years trying to figure out ways I could marry an American just so I could apply for the US version…

  11. I can’t wait! I’ll be sending in my application thats for sure, but still deciding who I should team up with haha.

It will be a great show, not sure why Australia didn’t get around to doing this earlier.

  12. *Auditioning*

Even if I don’t get in, I will most certainly be watching this show. Thanks Seven!!!!!!

  13. Here’s an idea – How about an Australian celebrity version with 7 Network ‘celebrities’. Kyle and Tamara, Matt Newton & Brooke Satchwell, Julia Gillard & Kevin Rudd etc. I’d watch that.

  14. Hopefully this local version will be able to re-energise Australian viewers about the Amazing Race, which has slumped over the many years it has been shuffled around with. I am looking forward to this, and I hope Channel Seven will choose a wide range of diverse couples like the U.S. version does. But hopefully no sob stories about these couples lifetime! It ain’t Domestic Blitz! 🙂
