Auditions: The Amazing Race Australia

Seven confirms a local version of The Amazing Race. And yes, contestants will be racing around the world.

Channel Seven has now confirmed an Australian version of The Amazing Race, featuring Aussies travelling around the world.

The announcement follows earlier media speculation that a deal was being negotiated with Disney.

“The US version of The Amazing Race has had a huge following on Seven and we are thrilled to be working with Disney on The Amazing Race Australia which promises to capture the excitement of the original series,” said Brad Lyons, Seven’s Head of Production.

“Audiences in Australia have shown an enormous appetite for high-quality, locally produced shows in recent years. The Amazing Race Australia is another great milestone in our long-standing relationship with Channel Seven in bringing programs that resonate with viewers here,” said Rob Gilby, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, Disney Media Distribution Asia Pacific.

Regional versions have already been produced in Asia, Brazil, China, Israel and Latin America.

The series will be produced in conjunction with Active TV, which already produces The Amazing Race Asia.

Applications are already open for teams of two, aged 18 or over. Team members must have a pre-existing personal relationship. e.g. friends, relatives, partners, colleagues etc. Update: Now 21 years of age minimum.

And presumably be ready to show they can be ignorant Aussie tourists in a foreign country too….

On offer is a “massive cash prize.”

Entries close September 6th.

Last team to check in may be eliminated.

  1. @ louise, benny c and glen.
I don’t know why you thought it was too late (it is now of course), but we made our video yesterday, filled out our applications, went and got a passport size photo at the p.o. at lunch today and then drove all these goodies straight to the South Melbourne business centre after work and got in before the deadline. So could you! Let me tell you though, there was also a fair line of other hopefuls there with there envelopes ready to hand in (for some reason I wasn’t expecting this…crap) and the lady behind the counter told me that they have been inundated (especially today) by applications, so I’m not holding my breath, but I do have a little ace up my sleeve so I think if nothing else I will be memorable and I guess that’s what they want.

  2. Am a big fan of amazing race….but this is the first i’ve heard of Australia being involved…and i watch a decent ammount of t.v…….shame it wasn’t more heavily advertised????

  3. i only just found out also…

i have always wanted to do this and i’m now 21 and there is finally an Australian race
and i cant get my app in on time
    FML

please do it again next year.
    I want in.

  4. Oh my Heavens, I found out about the applications to late!!!!! Please don’t let this be the last one. I am an Amoazing Race freak. I have been waiting and praying for an Aussie Amazing Race!! and now here it is and I am to late 🙁 Not happy. Can not wait to watch and apply for the very next one.

  5. OMG, I can’t believe this awsume show is finally made it to our land and yes we have applied to be selected on this show.

  6. I will be watching, shame I am to old and unfit to join. but good luck to those people who get selected Bring it on Yippee an aussie version

  7. There is a PO Box given as the address in South Melbourne….. Is there an actual address so I can courier the application pack in?? I think I will be pressed to make it with Aust Post by Monday arvo??!! Have to travel far to catch up with my mate and do the video??

  8. It really sux big time because when we downloaded the application form it said 18 years so went ballistic and got very excited and went to all the trouble to get passports (much $$) and now have found out they have raised the age to 21. Can you imagine the let down !! Not that we would have got in but now not even a chance. Wouldn’t have got so excited if they had been honest up front. Will not even watch it now !!

  9. Above says 18 years to enter but on the actual giudelines it says both entries must be 21 years. Does anyone know the correct age ???

    1. Guys, as you hopefully realise I am not associated with the Seven Network or their auditions. Questions about TAR should be directed to Seven. Many can be answered via the info on their site (linked above) already.

I suspect there is nothing to stop you entering more than one team, however in my experience it probably suggests to Producers you are not very committed to either team, so bear this in mind. Good luck.

  10. when is the actual competition?
and do you have to be 18 by the time of audition or when the competition starts? because i am 17 and want to audition
    does anyone know?

  11. It would be great to see Grant Bowler as host – the next best thing from having The Mole back.

  12. How about Kevin Rudd and John Howard as a team? Both out of a full time jobs now and likes to travel around the World!?

  13. I will not apply for this but i will watch this show to see if it’s any good. I think it will be good but i agree i don’t think an Australian version will go as good it will probably last a few seasons.

  14. I absolutely love this show. Would love to audition but can’t imagine an aussie version doing well. Almost everything we copy is budget crap. I agree with previous comment that hopefully it doesn’t replace US version. And no Tom Williams… can’t stand him.

  15. Oh my god. That would be awesome to do. But Im no good at reading maps, cant drive and dont like climbing buildings. But it would be awesome to watch Aussies go into other countries. I guess we will be laughing at our own now.

  16. I am scared of heights, can’t drive a stick shift and don’t like water. I also can’t read maps. I must be a shoe-in to get on the show!

  17. Can’t wait for this! I might just apply with my brother too…. probably have no chance, but it’s worth a try ey?

  18. I’d murder to do this (I could do it subtly, no-one would suspect a thing 😉 )

…Then I realise after all this that i’m probably expected to know how to drive. Darn it!!!!

  19. Oh Yeah! This just made my week! I have been longing for an Aussie version for years! As long as it is exactly like the American version but with Aussie teams, I will be a very happy man! (that and starting/finishing in Australia too!) I really hope Phil will find the time to host it. It’s not TAR without him. If we cannot have him, get a nobody in, not a star from the Seven stable as others have mentioned. I would apply if i had nothing to do with my life at the moment, but i do!
