Auditions: The Amazing Race Australia

Seven confirms a local version of The Amazing Race. And yes, contestants will be racing around the world.

Channel Seven has now confirmed an Australian version of The Amazing Race, featuring Aussies travelling around the world.

The announcement follows earlier media speculation that a deal was being negotiated with Disney.

“The US version of The Amazing Race has had a huge following on Seven and we are thrilled to be working with Disney on The Amazing Race Australia which promises to capture the excitement of the original series,” said Brad Lyons, Seven’s Head of Production.

“Audiences in Australia have shown an enormous appetite for high-quality, locally produced shows in recent years. The Amazing Race Australia is another great milestone in our long-standing relationship with Channel Seven in bringing programs that resonate with viewers here,” said Rob Gilby, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, Disney Media Distribution Asia Pacific.

Regional versions have already been produced in Asia, Brazil, China, Israel and Latin America.

The series will be produced in conjunction with Active TV, which already produces The Amazing Race Asia.

Applications are already open for teams of two, aged 18 or over. Team members must have a pre-existing personal relationship. e.g. friends, relatives, partners, colleagues etc. Update: Now 21 years of age minimum.

And presumably be ready to show they can be ignorant Aussie tourists in a foreign country too….

On offer is a “massive cash prize.”

Entries close September 6th.

Last team to check in may be eliminated.

  1. Hey, my sister and i would love to apply for a position in the Amazing Race. We both watch it all the time and know it would be so fantastic. We have always had trouble getting along because we clash so frequently and i would love to see how we would manage on a show that requires so much team work. It is both on our top 10 things to do before we do so it would be great if we could achieve that.

  2. my friend elka and i would love to apply 4 next series she was her dads cairer for the last five years and it would be great to participate in something so good

  3. Am a widower and my friend and I would like to apply for the next episode. We love watching the show and would be so humbly grateful to participate.

  4. hey i just wanna no how 2 apply 4 next series. me and my friend jake watch the show all the time and we think we have what it takes 2 win the amazing race. we r both fit and no how 2 work as a team cos we play sport 2gether

  5. Thanks for the reply Dave….yeah we have the net, but who goes looking for that? the only way is with regional TV…but we hear and see nothing, now I bet that it was broadcast a fair bit in Melbourne or any other capital and anyother “outsiders” would have heard through word of mouth (what a dumb saying?)……but anyway I can smell that the moonshine is ready and Im sick of peddling this generator…..zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

    1. Don’t remember seeing TV ads in Melbourne, it was mainly print stories and online promotion. It was rabid in Twitter and online forums. There are many like you who feel they missed out including in the big smoke.

  6. What really gives me the @*#^ is that country people never get to hear about new shows and auditions, why do they always seem to let the “city dwellers” know?
A bit unfair when it should be a cross section of Oz in the show…hope it goes the same way Top Gear Australia went, the seat should be still warm but remember to flush and wash your hands when finished !….. 😛

    1. Mark you should probably take it up with regional media if they are not communicating to you. I ran several stories last year, including the time extension that was granted, on TAR. Last time I checked the internet was available in the bush. They were inundated with thousands of applications and there are farmers in the show.

  10. There is a girl named Georgie, who has a twin sister named Christina, We’ve heard of the Amazing Race thrill seeking game and as we choose our mission of adrenalin our choice is the Amazing Race…

We hope to be racing the world as a canditate in the 2011 series..

  11. i have a son working im macau and he said. in this hour ,3pm ,nov 12,the amazing race australia has just arrive in airport for flights to bangkok , had just finish race leg in macau,he was ask by a team followed by a cameramen and a micmen .minutes later another team arrived

  12. i talked to them today here in MFM and they will fly to S.A.. im so happy to talked to them and asked for my help in the airport.

  13. OK, so is it safe to say that if we haven’t been chosen for an interview now we never will be??! I need to take my life back ‘off hold’ and make future plans!

    1. Can’t say with certainty, but that would be my hunch. I tried to get some detail from Seven about the various stages of interviews so people would know if they were out of the running, but they didn’t wanna play ball. I expect they will just announce the teams (all of whom will be sworn to secrecy) and be done with it. I suppose if the show rates you could apply again?

  14. The applications said that you wouldn’t hear unless you got a call up….
They also said that if you emailed, blogged or in general spoke about your involvement with the program you would be dropped so the chances of anyone actually saying anything here are pretty slim i would think!

So i suppose all we can do is wait!

    1. I have previously asked Seven for advice about when people may know if they are still in / out of running, or if they have their shortlist etc. But didn’t get anything satisfactory. I have a strange feeling they will suddenly just announce the lucky cast. It would be nice to give people some clarity if they have been considered and rejected.

  15. Hey, how are you all. I of course have entered as well and was in the same boat as most of you, worked hard and rushed a little to get the application in on time, only to find out that they had extended by two weeks. It could only mean that we were not good enough, or they didnt get enough entries.

Anyway, dying to hear if we have missed out. So if anyone has heard anything about an interview, it would be good to know. At this stage, two weeks after the entries closed I am thinking perhaps I have missed out. How long does it take them to choose interviewees.

Anyway, if anyone knows anything or has heard of anyone getting an interview it would be good to know. If no one has heard anything, I guess we are all still in with a chance.

    Good Luck

  16. come on…….. my partner and I went to all the trouble of getting our application in on time and now they have extended the dead-line…. we could have spent more time on our audtion video. Very very unfair that other people who couldn’t be bothered to get their application in on time now can sit back and take their time.

  17. Apparently there office looks like a mailing sorting room so why extend the closing date if u have more then enough applications already. A little dissappointing when thousands of other ppl manage to get there application in on time. Thats 2 things that have been changed since the announcement, Lets hope the actual event goes ahead to plan.

  18. they extended the closing date, what a crock for all of us who made the effort to have our applications in on time .Didn’t they get enough to choose from makes you wonder what else will be changed with out notice.

  19. And about time too… but are Aussies going to be as dislikeable as Americans. We seem to have more of a “clue” about other countries. I could not have let this happen without applying.. so I did. But I totally agree that it just wouldnt be the same without Phil, but if it cant be Phil, it has to be Tom.
