ELEVEN to launch in early 2011

Updated: Neighbours, Dexter, Futurama, Supernatural, Stargate, Smallville, Nurse Jackie, 90210 are all coming to ELEVEN -and more News on TEN.

TEN has confirmed it will launch its new digital multichannel, ELEVEN early next year.

The new SD channel promises ‘fun and bold programming with particular appeal to the distinctly youthful market.’

It will air all-new episodes of Futurama, The Cleveland Show, Supernatural, Stargate, Dexter, Smallville, The Office, Nurse Jackie, 90210 and more.

It will also be the free-to-air home of the iconic The Simpsons.

Neighbours will also move to ELEVEN leaving question marks about the Network’s plans for local content on TEN. It will remain at 6:30pm weeknights.

Chief programming officer David Mott said: “Neighbours is an important and cherished member of the Network Ten family.

“We believe Neighbours is perfectly suited to ELEVEN’s audience strategy and will find a successful and enduring home on ELEVEN. We will round out the first 25 years with a bang, and give Australia’s most successful drama a new home to keep it vibrant in the schedule for the next 25.”

FremantleMedia Australia CEO, Ian Hogg said: “Just as Neighbours forged new territory for TEN in 1986, so we will again for ELEVEN in 2011. We are very proud of the faith being placed in Neighbours and the key role we will be playing in ELEVEN’s launch and line-up. Our storyline plans for 2011 are both bold and dramatic. Neighbours fans have much to look forward to for many years to come.”

Shifting Neighbours and The Simpsons signals changes for TEN’s early evening line-up. Following from News at Five bulletins, TEN will introduce a new half-hour national news-based program at 6.00 pm weeknights targeting viewers seeking a smarter, more informed, considered and insightful approach to the stories, issues, events and news-makers of the day.

Then at 6.30pm weeknights and at 6.00pm weekends, TEN will present a half-hour locally-presented and produced news service in all markets, focussing on the key issues in each State.

ELEVEN will also draw upon more than 70,000 hours of content from CBS’s library, including Everybody Loves Raymond, Sex and the City, JAG, Frasier, Judging Amy, Happy Days and MacGyver, to name a few.

In addition, Network Ten Pty Limited and CBS Studios International announced the proposed formation of a joint venture, ElevenCo Pty Limited (ElevenCo), which will provide content to ELEVEN. Network Ten will hold 66 2/3 per cent equity in ElevenCo, with CBS Studios Inc. holding a 33 1/3 per cent share.

As part of the arrangement to form the proposed joint venture, CBS has agreed to extend its existing long-term output deal with Network TEN.

CEO Grant Blackley said: “CBS Studios is a leading producer of quality programming for the global marketplace. In addition to its successful pipeline of content to the CBS network, which has been the lead network in the US for the last 8 out of 10 years, CBS produces content for the youth-targeted network, the CW. Our established output deal with CBS has been long and fruitful, delivering hits such as NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, Rules of Engagement, Medium, The Good Wife and the much-anticipated Hawaii Five-0 to Australian audiences.”

“Importantly, the joint venture will ensure long term continuity of this prolific US content pipeline, underpinning the sustainability of ELEVEN and also delivering continued supply of high quality international programming for TEN.

“ELEVEN will deliver a distinct destination for Australian consumers and advertisers. The channel’s ‘distinctly youthful’ focus will be well suited to fostering a strong level of online community and social media engagement, and the format will provide opportunities for a high level of sponsor integration – such as segment and program hostings – delivered in ways that will resonate with ELEVEN’s audience,” Mr Blackley said.

ELEVEN will replace ONE SD.

A week ago Seven announced its new digital channel 7mate would launch in late September.

  1. From The Australian:

“Fortunately, Ten is now able to exceed its local drama content requirements for its foundation network without Neighbours.”

This means that Ten doesn’t have to have anymore Australian drama than now. There is no question mark.

  2. After a search on the net it says these shows will be first run on the channel

    First Run Programming
The Simpsons, Neighbours, Futurama, The Cleveland Show, Smallville, The Office, Stargate Universe, Supernatural, Dollhouse, 90210, Melrose Place, Nurse Jackie, The Late Show with David Letterman, Dexter, One Tree Hill, Top Model UK

and these are available through cbs library

Charmed, 7th Heaven, Sex and the City, The 4400, Everybody Loves Raymond, King of Queens, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Cheers, Becker, Fraiser, JAG, Judging Amy, Star Trek, Star Trek Voyager, Walker: Texas Ranger, Roseanne, Diagnosis Murder, Family Ties, The Brady Bunch, Get Smart, Hogan’s Heroes, MacGyver, Happy Days, The Love Boat

  3. @Vinne – Using Neighbours as a launch title for Eleven, I wouldn’t say that’s “demolishing” it. I’d say that shows a lot of confidence in Neighbours as a brand, and a lot of dedication to Eleven as a ‘real’ network.

  4. David – I demand you answer the following questions. I have also asked them on 952 other forums.
Does anyone know if “11” will be a HD or SD channel?
Will Foxtel broadcast it on FoxtelMobile and Foxtel on XBOX in 1080p?
Can my cat watch this channel if he meows loud enough?
Will there be infomercials on there?
Why cant TEN get rid of ONE HD so we can watch old black and white movies in HD?
Will Prime show “11” in North Eastern Queensland?
Can I get this new channel in New Zealand if I look at the sun and wink my eyes three times while saying Candyman?

  5. @ Vinnie, that doesn’t make any sense, if Neighbours is strgugling for ratings against non-youth skewing shows liek ACA & TT, what on earth is it going to make it more competitive at 7pm against H & A. There will be less viewers to pick from.

More like Brave TEN by putting so many hours of Australian content on a multichannel.

  6. I wonder

    a) what will be shown in summer now on Ten… ?

    b) I wonder if Numbers of Law and Order UK will be on 11 or…. will it be shown over summer on Ten ?

  7. ten needs to stop simulcasting the AFL on both 10 and One so it can free up extra space for other stuff, i’ll be happy watching the footy on One, especially if Before the Game is amped up with a larger audience and budget.

  8. @Ronnie The only problem with that is that with 100 hours a year, Seven and Ten could make that with just Home & Away and Neighbours respectively.

  9. I don’t believe it; TEN continues to demolish Neighbours.

Why they couldn’t go with their new line-up and simply swap The Project and Neighbours around is beyond me; they still would have had their 2 hrs of News / Current Affairs and Neighbours would’ve had more of a chance against H&A, rather than stuck in that stupid 6:30 slot against News & Current Affairs (which it still will be). Gutless, TEN…

  10. I have to say, the name is great and the logo, better than 7 mate . I will be watching most of the shows on this channel.

We will be way behind in these shows, if we have to wait till 2011.

    The only thing

ELEVEN will draw upon more than 70,000 hours of content from CBS’s library, including Everybody Loves Raymond, Sex and the City, JAG, Frasier, Judging Amy, Happy Days and MacGyver, to name a few

Doesn’t Nine have the rights to Frasier ?

On the topic of Nine…… when are we going to hear about their channel….. if they even have plans for one lol.

  11. I wanna see sliders too! and i hope they have lots of movies cause thats what i look for every night on digital channels, A movie to watch nearly every night.
Why has it taken so long for ten to bring this to us? The have the shows, they have the channel so what are they waiting for?? Hurry the fk up

  12. Would like to see older shows like Dallas and Falcon’s Creast on Eleven. Good to see Judging Amy back will be able to see the last season and a half that Nine didn’t/wouldn’t screen a few years back.

  13. So viewers are still left waiting for the resumption of Supernatural that will be a round a year since it last screened its just another channel to mess up,im a synical but can u blame me?

  14. That logo looks ugly.

I’m glad that Ten are doing something in that 6pm hour. Combined with MasterChef they should have a very competitive 14 weeks next year, maybe even become a true contender to win primetime next year.

  15. so all these shows I’ve been waiting for, still have to wait for …. at least hopefully they will stick to the “long term continuity” statement and keep programs on in their alloted time (supernatural for one!). Moving neighbours I would think a big risk, but does show me that they have complete support and dedication to this new channel. Looking forward to it. Looks like I’ve got to go buy me one of those fancy digital DVRs

  16. I agree with Pietro.. David, why don’t you do an article about HD channels and how they stack up against one-another with bitrate/quality. You can do 1920×1200, compressed to a level where everything is so ridiculously compressed, that it may as well be SD. Full HD FTA isn’t HD. I mean it is called high Definition There is No Definition when large regions on the screen are represented by large MPEG-compressed boxes.
Will we ever have a situation in Australia where FTA channels will have enough bandwidth — or be Forced to devote more bandwidth for their HD channels to reach a minimum spec to be verified as Full HD? i.e. must be 1920×1200, bitrate must not drop below x, compression must not be below y.. Some of the “HD” broadcasts look no better than Youtube videos when blown up to full screen.

  17. So, in a nutshell, the multi-channels are/will be:

ABC2: Indie Aus Doco’s, English Drama, BBC Style Doco’s
    ABC3: Kids Entertainment
    News24: News
    oneHD: Sport
    Eleven: Drama/Entertainment & Old Sitcom’s (<3)
    7TWO: Lifestyle/Entertainment
    7mate: Men's Interest
GO!: Light Entertainment, Old Sitcom's (<3), Reality Style Shows
SBS TWO: Stuff I generally can't understand, but is still important.

What's missing?? 24hour movies. Please, Channel Nine, release a BoxOffice channel with 24 hour movies and mini-series!

I wonder if Foxtel is quivering in it's boots?

  18. I’m pleased the seriously outdated and much-maligned Neighbours is out of the main channel sked, however there should be no changes to content rules. It’s more than about time Ten commissioned more than one or two series a year of Australian drama for prime time. Maybe the content rules should be simplified to 100 hours each (forget the complicated points system) of Australian drama from all four primary channels Seven, Nine, Ten and the ABC – that’s only 2 hours per week. Nine are nearly there, Seven already there. The ABC has to lift its game though – 2010 has been utterly disgraceful in this area yet again.
