Corrine Grant: Today Tonight “lied to me.”

An angry Corrine Grant has slammed Today Tonight claiming it misrepresented her in a story about extreme hoarders.

Comedian Corrine Grant has slammed Today Tonight, accusing the Seven show of lying to her.

“Yey. Got screwed on Today Tonight.Thorough misrepresentation of my book and of me. TT lied to me. Should have known…” she wrote on her Twitter feed.

Grant had agreed to be interviewed about her book in which she admits to a habit for collecting.

She told TT she had collected pencils, school bags, school uniforms, socks -a habit which wrote about for her new book, Lessons in Letting Go. She has also previously spoken about it in her live comedy show Have My Stuff (pictured).

TT described it as an “uncontrollable obsession” for hoarding, accompanied by video footage of extreme hoarders, with backyards overflowing with car parts and fridges.

TT said, “While we associate the typical hoarder with junkyards spilling into neighbours yards, Corinne’s obsession was a closely-guarded secret until she snapped.”

It included comment from Clinical Psychologist Dr. Nicholas Marlowe about obsessive compulsive disorders and footage from Hoarders which screens on the Bio channel and a firefighter who says houses of hoarded junk can cause dangerous fires.

But Grant, who has since explained she doesn’t even have a backyard, says her Publicist believed the story was meant to portray a different angle.

“Interview was s’posed 2 about how only hoarders shown on TV are extreme ones & that my book is about the hoarder in all of us,” she wrote.

“My book is about ordinary everyday hoarders, not the 5% ones that they made me out to be. They did a dodgy on me!

“Only time I’m going to ask people to buy my book, just so you can see it’s a funny, uplifting story-not the sh*t portrayed on Today Tonight!

Grant, who is also presenter of Seven’s Air Ways, went as far as to say,”There is no denying I was a d***head for believing their pitch. I only have myself to blame!”

The TT story aired on the same night A Current Affair profiled a Melbourne man whose home was being forcibly cleaned up by local council.

Seven is yet to comment on Grant’s claims.

  1. Whoda thunk it? Tabloid television hyping up the ‘bizarro’ angle on a story. Still, I’m wondering if Corinne has been a little more savvy than she’s letting on. The associated publicity can only work to fuel more sales of her book.

  2. Well done Corrine for slamming the terrible tabloid trash that is Today Tonight. Another negative piece on Seven’s poor news and current affairs department. I am glad I switched to Nine for 6pm news when I did and Neighbours at 6:30pm.

If Australia had better taste it would be slaughtered by Neighbours every night in every city and demo and even World News Australia would do better than TT. Hope 10 News at 6:30pm will give Today Tonight a good hiding next year especially since it will not show tabliod trash!

Even those negative Masterchef stories I hear them showing just shows they also love to put down anything on another network regardless of how good they are despite the fact Seven have quite a few shows worth avoiding. I was once a loyal Seven viewer yet now I am now watching SBS more than 7 who is number 5 in my books.

  3. Who in their right mind would go to, or at least be seen on Today Tonight or A Current Affair. Everyone knows it’s gutter tabloid journalism, so why be greedy for exposure.

  4. “Anyone who goes on Today Tonight (or ACA for that matter) and doesn’t realise they are going to get screwed or misrepresented is clearly stupid. ”

Well not necessarily, Today Tonight is great at puff pieces when they want to boost some network personality/show. And Corinne is technically part of Ch7. But since she isn’t promoting a product 7 stands to gain anything from, it’s probably not surprising they duped her.

  5. Good on her for having the balls to have at them… it may harm her chances of workign for them again, but when they have twisted a story like that it deserves to be called out.

  6. LOL, I watched the video and it was amusing to see how they were able to take her out of context. Reminded me of that episode of The Simpsons where Homer goes to a current affairs show to clear his name of sexual harassment allegations.

  7. Eh. It was to be expected.

If anything, the publicity from this “controversy” will probably mean more sales of, and even more media attention for, the book than if Today Tonight had run a “puff piece” on how great the book is.

  8. Anyone who goes on Today Tonight (or ACA for that matter) and doesn’t realise they are going to get screwed or misrepresented is clearly stupid.

Same goes for all the people who watch these two shows.

  9. Hah! This happens so often it almost isn’t news (but in a different way from TT not being news). Poor Corrine but this is what happens when you play at the bottom of the barrel – you end up getting some muck on you.

  10. I don’t blame her for being very dismayed about this. The lead-in to the story was edited in such a way that it made her look like an extreme hoarder, with an overflowing backyard full of garbage and a house full of junk. It definitely blurred the line between truth and misrepresentation designed to make the story look sensational. As it turned out, Corinne is nothing like an extreme hoarder and it was very disingenous and downright sleazy of TT to present her in this light. I would be absolutely furious about it if I were her.
