Hurrah. Legendary Aussie soap Prisoner is about to get a series rerun on 111 HITS.

The fan favourite will begin from the very first episode on Australia Day January 26, 2011, where it will screen at 10.30pm every weeknight through Foxtel and Austar.

UPDATE: Now delayed until March.

Many readers have asked about the chance to watch this classic production once again.

The show, which celebrated its 30th anniversary last year, continues to enjoy a fervent fan following (many moons ago yours truly was actually given the ok to launch the very first fan club for the show!).

Well done to 111 HITS for securing the rights to the show. Bring on the interviews please!

(ps. Elsepeth Ballantyne appears ins eason finale of Rush next week).

  1. I read in the herald today that some of the cast were going to be at a launch at Melbourne goal for the rescreening of this show? Anyone know of the date? I’d love to catch up with some old characters

  2. Hooray….I’m so sick of seeing the same ol reruns of the same damn shows…just a suggestion foxtel-if ur gona put it on start from the beginning an continue to the end otherwise the story lines are useless…don’t let us down because this is a true Aussie classic an u can start a new generation of fans…considering (even tho I’m a fan) u continue to over play friends I don’t think this is too much to ask 🙂

  3. I’m interested to know where 111Hits are sourcing their tapes from?
If they’re going to use the same “master” tapes used to produce the entire dvd release, then we are in for alot of cuts and edits!! The dvd release did not use the True original unedited tapes that are held in the National Film & Sound Archive.

  4. Sorry about that David, I had read your original article back on 9/12, but didn’t re-read it last night before posting the “updated” info. Any idea on what was behind the decision to delay it until March?

  5. Wow I can’t believe it, finally getting what so many people have been waiting for.

But really they should have showed this classic on free to air so more people could see just what a real Australian drama is.

  6. now that was a show worthy of making a comeback. id pay to watch the freak still rotting away in jail.

@Mr Gillespie. I thought i was a huge fan but you are the king of all fans

  7. yes i do feel sorry for people who havent got pay tv because the free to air networks who have plenty of room with thier digital channels wuld rather show american and briitish re runs rather than classic australian shows like prisoner the sullivans a country practice etc

  8. All the shows on 111 go and 7 mate are on paytv , how about some new shows, how about we have a vibrant and inovative tv industry , instead of re run city

  9. What about the free-to-air digital channels?

I would have thought they have more sense than to make the same mistake as they did in 1997 (when they snuck Prisoner over to Foxtel when Channel 10 pulled it, saying they’d be back “next year” only to never return Prisoner ever again).

Thank God Shock released every episode of Prisoner on DVD in 2006–2008. I still have my DVD collection handy. I just hope that those without access to $PAY$TV$ (especially in this day and age of multi-channel digital TV) still have easy access to Prisoner.

  10. woohoo just the news i wanted to hear well done 111 hits, lets hope they show all the 692 episodes even though i just watched then all on you tube it will be great to watch them all again and keep my vcr busy
