Airdate: Live from Planet Earth

Ben Elton doesn't plan a talk or variety show, but a combination of live, scripted sketches and stand-up comedy.

Ben Elton’s Live From Planet Earth, will debut on Tuesday, February 8th on Nine.

The Melbourne-made show isn’t a talk show or variety show, but a combination of live, scripted sketches and stand-up comedy, with guests written into sketches, playing themselves or a character.

Sounds very Saturday Night Live, but being live that could be an awful lot of sets and logistics to co-ordinate (as Let Loose Live remembers).

The ensemble cast includes Genevieve Morris, Paul McCarthy, Veronica Milsom, Olivia Stambouliah, Shareena Clanton, Lyall Brooks, Kate McLennan, Emma Leonard and Michelle Davison.

Of the celebrity guests, Elton tells the Sunday Telegraph, “It won’t be a conventional interview. They’ll either have a role in a sketch or play themselves.

“Of course, we’ll give them a plug, but they’ll have to muck in with the rest of us and be prepared to be cheeked.”

NB: While the Sunday Telegraph notes a 9pm start for the show, current Nine programming indicates a Top Gear special to run from 8 – 9:30pm.

  1. @Mia – no only McCarthy and Genevieve Morris were on ‘Comedy Inc’.
@Woody – what’s wrong with McCarthy? He’s an awesome impersonator – his Rudd, Howard, Kochie, etc. are definitive.

  2. I give this 2 weeks…

As for TG UK the Middle East Special was 75 minutes long on the BBC back in December so will it be cut back to 60 minutes here or with they have only 15 minutes of ads in it’s 90 min time slot?
