GTV9 welcomes new Bourke Street home

GTV9 management and staff today began first day of business at their new home at 717 Bourke Street.

GTV9 management and staff today began first day of business at their new home at 717 Bourke Street.

It marks a new phase for the network in a brand new building adjacent to both Southern Cross (railway) Station and Etihad Stadium. Nearby neighbours now include the Fairfax / 3AW building and the Seven Network, while Docklands Studios are also close by.

The move also brings together each of the various business units of the Nine Entertainment Co. under one roof, including NineMSN, Ticketek and ACP Magazines.

A Nine spokesperson told TV Tonight, “While Bendigo Street was steeped in history, it was certainly time to move on. With the move to Docklands, we now have the most modern facilities of any television station in the country. Everything about this building is state-of-the-art.

“Docklands is where the heart of Melbourne’s media hub is at. And Nine is now right in the thick of it, with arguably the best TV workspaces in the country.”

New studios inside 717 Bourke Street are expected to be up and running soon with Nine News to remain at Bendigo Street for the next few weeks, during this transition period.

  1. GerryM: This site has always had a bit of a Melbourne skew.

The biggest and probably the most prolific studio site was Seven’s at Epping- it was demolished this year without all the angst and handwringing associated with GTV9’s closure.

    1. Historically TV Tonight has its origins in Melbourne, before welcoming a national audience, so no apology there. Ask any network they will tell you Melbourne is still the city with the most eyeballs. I also think GTV9’s history outranks the rest. But it’s not an either / or situation: Story on Epping was filed here. Perth ABC studios story here. HSV7 story here. I will again be acknowledging GTV9 on the day they leave the building for the last time.

  2. Shame really, losing a large studio space to another generic office building. It seems like more of the same, rather than having a real vibe for ‘the home of live television’ like Bendigo street had.

  3. Most of their production will be at the Docklands Studio nearby, but it seems News and ACA will be at 717. I bet they would like to change that address!

  4. gerry: The building is surrounded closely on three sides by roadway, and by a Travelodge hotel on the fourth side, no room to put a huge logo out the front like Seven has.

  5. Docklands is a white elephant! No vibe whatsoever!

I would think Channel 7 at Martin Place, which is actually in the heart of the the Sydney CBD would be the best TV workstation in the country. It produces close to 50 hours a week of Live Network television.

Are they just going to produce News and ACA?

Just because it’s the newest doesn’t make it the best.

    Nice design though.

  6. You would think they would have a bigger Nine logo, instead of the tiny one on top of the entrance. Why not a huge Nine logo out the front like Seven has?
