Could Larry Emdur quit Seven to return to Nine and co-host the Today show?

More speculation today over the future of Karl Stefanovic’s on the Today show with a report that Nine is looking to lure Larry Emdur back to a possible replacement.

Emdur has been with Seven since 2005 when he hosted Wheel of Fortune and has been co-hosting The Morning Show since mid-2007.

News Limited reports he has six months remaining on his contract with Seven.

Nine spokesman David Hurley said: “We think he’s a great and versatile talent . . . and if he happened to come home we’d regard that as a good result.”

  1. I actually agree with Greg’s comments on Jan. Right on the money. Rest Kochie until weekends and flick Matt White outright back to sport where he belongs. Some very good suggestions. 😉

  5. I don’t think Larry Emdur is anything special. My mother used to work at the Sydney Morning Herold and he worked in the same building as her, but she only saw him walking around about once. She said that he was walking around like he was so good and she said he thinks he’s God’s gift.

    1. Andrew H: I have to say that’s a pretty unfair comment. So your mother, and not you, saw him walking once and deduced that he was God’s gift? Maybe he just got good news at the time? Did she discuss anything with him at the time? What about the other times when she didn’t see him and he was as down to earth as the rest of the staff? And how long ago was this?

      It’s one thing to have a viewer reaction to what you see on air -that’s fair game. But to make accusations based on something you haven’t seen, without publishing your surname, I think is pretty unfair. We should conduct ourselves online as we would in public.

  7. Nine needs a major reshuffle and Larry Emdur has got to be in their plans.

  8. I don’t like him. Sure he’s funny every now and then but there’s something about him that comes off as extremely shallow. I wouldn’t be surprised if he could give Cher a run for her money in the diva department.

    Although if he left, that might mean they put Andrew O’keefe on Saturday Sunrise. I would actually watch then. Instead i only get to LOL! on Sunday. Andrew and Sam have the best chemistry of anyone on breakfast TV

  9. I would prefer Karl & Lisa to stay on the Today Show, but if not, Larry would be a good replacement.

    As already mentioned though, it would be fantastic to get Larry to host another game show, whether it be The Price Is Right or something else.

  11. larry and kylie are great together. larry was great on nine as well and he was quite funny when ever he stepped in for darryl on hey hey. who could ever forget the night they brought his number 1 fan on to haunt him. the today show has been on a downwud spiral for years. they have tried to hard to beat sunrise and they have turned into mush. but sunrise is terrible as well. i think we could do without out breakfast tv in australia

  12. Larry and the Price is Right over at Nine for 2011 I say.

    And put it on as a show after the News and Current Affairs at 7pm like what Nine used to do back in the Sale of the Century/Temptation era.

    Anything has got to be better than the Middle or 2.5 men at that time of night.

  14. Agree with the sentiments of Guy and Robert – Emdur to replace David Koch and Nat Barr to take the sheila hosting spot. Larry doesn’t have the big head that Kochie has acquired over the years, and Nat is witty and hot. BTW, gonna miss the Racheal Finch comedy shows during the weather now that Denyer is back. [Blinks eyes constantly]

  15. Larry’s antics are better suited to something like The Morning Show than the Today show. If they’re planning to make the Today show even more light hearted than it already is, then god help us all.

  16. Today is riddled with problems. As an addition he could help revitalize it a little but ultimately Today needs to be completely revamped and everyone existing needs to be dumped. It’s very cold and mechanical, all the interactions are disingenuous or awkward.

  19. I like Larry and think he is a better fit for Nine as he has a bit of class about him. Although not on Today. Like a previous poster said let’s bring back TPIR!! Get rid of antiques and have a game show double with TPIR and Hot Seat.

  20. Well I wont watch today with him on it. I like the way the Today show is now but you could get rid of Richard Wilkins and then it would be better. I cant stand Larry and turn of when ever he is on. I am at work for the morning show so he should stay there and it keeps me happy. As for Sunrise I wont watch that either because of Kochie…..if this move happens sorry Lisa but I will be back to radio for breakfast.

  24. If Larry Emdur leaves the 7 Network to go back to his old employer the 9 Network then this will not be anything new, remember when Bert Newton left Network Ten to come back to 9. The only difference was that Bert was on ten for 10 years Larry has only been at 7 for 3 maybe 4 years tops. If the 7 Network value their talent and think they are an asset to the Network and the brand then they will offer him what ever he wants. Personally hope they keep him he is good but like all tv hosts in this country they do go overboard at times but generally he is my cup of tea.
