Upgraded to Category 5 Cyclone Yasi looks set to unleash its terror on the people of North Queensland, and just as the floods and bushfires sent networks into overdrive in a bid to cover the event, so too will this looming disaster.
This morning Sunrise extended to 11am, including live coverage into Queensland. The Sunrise team were on the ground across a number of locations. It was followed by extended Seven News which has continued rolling coverage all day.
Today was also live into Queensland with an extended hour for Queensland viewers only (ending 9am local time). Nine’s Morning News has continued beyond its one hour broadcast but since returned to normal programming.
A Current Affair, originally not scheduled tonight due to cricket, will now air at 6:30pm in Sydney and Melbourne, pushing the One Day International to 7pm.
Updated: In Brisbane:
5.00pm News Bulletin
5.30pm Cricket Live
6.00pm News Bulletin
6.30pm ACA (live local edition)
Nine also airs a half hour bulletin at 10:00pm in Sydney and Melbourne tonight and 9:00pm in Brisbane. Movie: Batman Begins follows thereafter.
On Thursday, Today begins at 5am (Syd / Mel) / 4am (Bris) airing until 11am (Syd / Mel) / 10am (Bris). Nine’s Morning News will follow for one hour. Kerri-Anne is out.

No not if they are on the A list
@pepe the new antisiphoning list hasn’t come into action yet and even if it had events are still allowed to be delayed by a certain amount of hours
ACA here in Adelaide as well we will be missing out on 10+ overs. This is clear sports hoarding by not allowing us to see it at all
7News coverage continues at 8:30pm AEDT. So looks like the continuous coverage for Brisbane viewers will conclude at 7pm for Home and Away.
Wendy kingston on 9news at 6 she should stay on for the rest of the year she look so hot
Chris Bath just said continuing coverage throughout the evening.. Don’t know whether that means post 7pm but you would think 7pm onwards would be the time to continue coverage.
And @7NewsBRISBANE have tweeted: “Watch 7 News Brisbane from 5pm for extended coverage of Cyclone Yasi and regular news bulletin from 6pm to 7pm”
More changes notified via Twitter
RT @ABCTV_australia: Due to coverage of #tcyasi, ABC1 will simulcast #ABCNews24 from 11pm AEDT through to midday tomorrow [NT from 2400 AEDT; WA, 0130 AEDT]
Ha ha Craig! That 30 Rock episode was nicely timed.
7 Cairns, Townsville and Mackay viewers
I think Seven are producing a special 1 hour combined Seven Local News edition for Cairns, Townsville and Mackay to air 6pm-7pm, which means Seven News Brisbane will not air in these areas and Home And Away will air at 7pm at this stage. (The Home And Away website says its still on, and my local EPG hasn’t been changed to reflect any programming changes for the rest of the day)
As a Mackay local this cyclone will not effect us as much as the residents to the north, so I hope everyone stays safe up there
Isn’t the cricket on the new antisiphoning list as a tier A event and therefore must be shown on the main chanel, live and in full unless an exemption is granted.?
Therefore bad luck to 9……
Channel Ten just tweeted: “QLD Viewers: Tonight’s episode of #House will be replaced by local news @ 9.30PM. House will now air on Friday night @ 9.30PM.”
This is like the floods all over again, endless coverage going over the same stuff. If you’re in the area you’d be too busy to watch and those outside the area it just gets boring so I for one tuned out and just checked in a few hours later for the updates.
That aside I hope everyone in the affected area comes thought this alive.
Wonder if they’ll have a telethon again? Speaking of that reminds me of a recent 30 Rock episode, to air soon on Seven I’m sure.
A-PAC on Foxtel is now dedicated to an Emergency Broadcast on the cyclone
6PM and The 7pm Project should be live into Queensland, it’d be dumb to have two delayed news services between the live local news. During the floods, the 7pm Project seemed to be live into Brisbane but it was still on at 7pm local time, i’m guessing they did a local edition just for us. They should do the same tonight.
I think Ten will air House in Brisbane this Friday at 8.30pm or 9.30pm, otherwise it will have to show double episodes next Wednesday.
Do Ten have an announcement of where we will see the missing House episode? or are we going to end up a week behind the rest of the country for the season?
Ten’s late news in Queensland will be an hour delayed if we get the national edition, as it is every night. Maybe the Queensland late news will be a different edition from the national edition. (likewise 6pm with George, and 7pm Project are on an hour delay in Qld too)
The big issue will be, if Seven decides to air a extended 6pm bulletin in QLD, (which would likely air in lieu of Seven Local News in FNQ)
If they don’t, and go with TT, there will likely be a mass switch of people, in the hundreds of thousands right at 6:30, to Ten…
It appears that Nine news in QLD is indeed at 5pm as well as 6pm, with ACA in between at 5.30. Cricket from 6.30 live.
Nine just had a banner across the screen up here in Brisbane:
Nine News at 5pm, ACA at 5:30pm, Nine News at 6pm then the cricket at 6:30pm.
Not sure if this was meant for Sydney and Melbourne viewers as the cricket night session would start at 5:30pm our time.
So in Qld. cricket takes priority over Nine News? How many will switch on at 6pm expecting to see the news? Oh well, still 7, 10 & ABC24 at 6.
Is there any information about this afternoon? It looks like Seven will have rolling coverage until 6pm. I’m sure Nine would want to do this now and put the Cricket on GEM.
Will Seven abandon all of tonight’s programming like they did with the Brisbane floods three weks ago?
Interesting to see what will happen with coverage as the cyclone’s due to cross the coast around 10pm EST. I imagine ABC News 24 will do well out of it.
To all our northern Queensland TV Tonighters, hang tight and batten down the hatches. We’ll be thinking of you.
I remember during the bushfires in 2009, Nine News did the opposite in Queensland (move the news from the scheduled 5pm to 6pm and delayed the cricket by an hour) because viewers expected to see the news at 6pm. I’m very surprised to see the have done the opposite this year.
