Report: Shane Bourne to host Logies

Shane Bourne has signed on to host the Logie Awards, according to a media report today.

Ok thrillseekers, Shane Bourne has signed on to host the Logie Awards, the Sunday Telegraph reports today.

The news follows an earlier rumour about Bourne fronting the annual event recently published by the Sunday Herald Sun.

Bourne is well regarded by the industry for both comedic and dramatic skills, but he isn’t recognised as a personality of the host broadcaster, Channel Nine. But with City Homicide (the show that still hasn’t been axed) and Thank God You’re Here no longer in production he isn’t currently signed to Seven.

The other unknown is whether there are any additional hosts, as adopted from 2005 – 2008.

The Sunday Tele also reports Hamish Blake and Andy Lee, are expected to be involved “in some capacity” -both have previously hosted backstage antics of the Logie nights.

Last year’s official announcement of the host was on March 15th but tomorrow’s magazine isn’t expected to confirm any hosting.

  1. Good luck to him. He is a funny guy, although I wouldn’t mind Shaun Micallef hosting too. And that’s good about Hamish and Andy being involved too.

  2. I don’t mind the choice of Shane. He is engaging and with good writers, funny. He is a larrickin – so at least the night will have a local feel – altho Bert would be my choice. He won’t be around forever, and he is Mr Logies. The host is ultimately just a figure head – whoever produces and writes and decides on the guests and musical segments are the people who really shape the Logies telecast. But of course the knives will be out for the host – that never changes. I wish him well if it is him.

  3. I wonder if they’ll do the usual cultural cringe thing and fly in some international “stars” to make guest appearances. I hear there’s one huge sitcom hero who’s got a bit of time on his hands at the moment …

  4. Hmm is that joke of a show still being produced? Must berth hey hey crowd that still watch it. Im sure the latest batch of soapie starlets will appreciate the recognition theyll receive for their hard work and contribution to the joke that is Australian television. Surely an event of this status requires the hosting sskills of the likes of mel and kochie and Karl ‘and Lisa . All 4 are extremely deserving well liked and respected figures of the Aussie tv landscape. If those peeps aren’t available I’m sure grant denyer would also be the peoples choice. He cyclone Yasi reporting was so great he should be up for a united nations award I say.

  5. @Nick why wouldn’t mainstream Australia still care about the Logies? Sure we haven’t got as many dramas, sitcoms and variety shows as we once did and despite today’s television on the whole being filled with mundane reality, factual and boring old cooking shows, I still think Australian television is as important now as it was when we supposedly ‘did care about this event’.

  6. I think the choice of Bourne to host the Logies isn’t bad, I’d gladly watch him host. It could be a lot worse if they had gone with someone else.

  7. I’m glad it’s not Bert. He’s hosted a few times already and, let’s face it, he’s a bit of a relic.

I really hope it’s not Shane Bourne, though. He’s not funny and he hasn’t been part of anything major recently. I mean, I can understand if they wanted him when Thank God You’re was on (and successful) at least, but it would strtike me as odd if he got the gig now.

  8. @KFed & DAN – Yup, the Logies could certainly do with more vagina jokes. I know I’ve been calling for that for years.

For those complaining about Shane being given the gig instead of [Insert Favourite TV Star] just be grateful it wasn’t Daggy Daryl!

  9. Okay choice. He’ll have the gravitas to command the room’s attention.

Does mainstream Australia still care about this event? I don’t think so.

  10. Oh… no. The worst thing he does is host, I mute his bits on Thank God You’re Here, his fake laugh, thinks everyone loves him… no. Another reason i won’t be watching.

  11. I’m surprised Bert didn’t rate a mention as host this year? I thought he did a good job in reclaiming the role last year. Have the news headlines surrounding his son led to Bert taking a step back from such a high profile gig?

A few weeks ago my mum said she couldn’t cope with watching Shane Bourne on City Homicide because she kept expecting him to appear in a loud shirt and say ‘hey thrillseekers’. I scoffed and said Mum he hasn’t said that for 30 years, and then I see it used above… I thought everyone had forgotten about that by now 🙂

  12. I think we’re all a bit shocked that Ben Elton didn’t get the gig.

Funnily enough after all this time, his work on Hey Hey means I still link Shane to Nine over the other networks.
