Nine’s seriously cheeky billboard

On the left, Channel TEN's headquarters. On the right, a billboard for Nine News.

Channel Nine now has a eye-catching billboard in Pyrmont on Sydney.

On the left in this photo you can see the Sydney headquarters of Channel TEN.

On the right is a billboard with a smiling Peter Overton and the words “See It First. Seriously.”

Very cheeky….

  1. I agree with Russell’s comment – the location might bring a snigger to the faces of those various news and programming managers at Nine who have taken the brand downmarket – but the location will bring them not one extra viewer.
For a reputedly cash conscious network to spend (certainly hundreds and probably thousands of dollars) to place it in such a low visibility spot, when just a block or two away is a major artery in & out of the Sydney CBD – is an insult to the financial stakeholders of Nine – including regular staff (who ultimately pay the sacrifice when the bean counters are next looking to sash costs).

  2. Why are people taking this so seriously? Its a bit of fun.. If 7 had done this everyone be saying its clever. Anyone who can not see the funny/ cheeky side obviously doesn’t have a sense of humor.

  3. Pity Nine couldn’t be this creative with their programming.

Ten should erect a billboard in Willoughby: “We won’t make you a millionaire but we are an Eddie free zone”.

  4. Due to it’s location, more Ten employees would see that sign than any real viewing public. What a waste of money and creativity. Oh, hang on,.. just money.
Almost as hilarious as when Nine parkied a GO! 4WD outside of the 7mate launch party. No.. it wasn’t funny. It was the best they could come up with, as they had been caught with their pants down by not having a 3rd channel ready. All they ended up with was a photo and story on tvtonight. Perhaps this latest stunt is the best they could come up with as well. If you can’t win the battle, attack the guys below you.
    Such great sportsmanship.

  5. This is actually quite funny. I wonder what the people going to work at Ten are saying about it. It’s nice to see a network with a sense of humor and a network that doesn’t just care about profit.

  6. The funny thing is people who will see that ad will never be able to watch Pete at 6pm anyway.

They are always stuck in peak hour traffic. For them it’s “Hear News on the radio 1st”
