  1. Haven’t three of the women nominated for ‘Best New Female Talent’ previously been on reality shows [Big Brother/Masterchef] ?
So they aren’t really new talent.

  2. Home And Away wins vs nominations since 1996-2011 are as follows;
    96: 3/5. 97: 0/1. 98: 0/4. 99: 1/6.
    00: 1/5. 01: 1/7. 02: 0/7. 03: 0/2.
    04: 2/8. 05: 3/8. 06: 4/13. 07: 4/9.
    08: 4/7. 09: 1/7. 10: 2/11. 11: ?/2.
some years are bad like 97,98,03 and some are good 06,07, 08.
    From 1989 to 1995 H&A won 12 logies.
In all H&A have won 38 logies since 1989

  3. @Kane “third rate unknown actresses like Asher Keddie”. You mean the lead in a prime time series? Who also had a starring role in a hit TV movie and has had five previous Logie nominations for Most Outstanding Actress? If you don’t know who Asher Keddie is, it’s a mystery why you have any interest being on this site.

As for Chrissie Swan, being a contestant on a reality show nine years ago is a very different role to that of a TV presenter. Meanwhile, Julie and Poh were both contestants on Masterchef. If you eliminated newcomers with previous credits you would have very few nominees – Ryan Corr was on Blue Water High, Emma Booth has been in All Saints, Eddie Perfect has had many TV roles and been on Spicks and Specks and Good News Week.

  4. TV Week has very annoyingly removed their Logies Archive (which listed winners and nominees dating back to the 60s). Does anyone know where this info is available online now? Wikipedia only has the winners available for older ceremonies. If I’d know they were going to take all the info down, I would have saved all of the pages several years ago when I first stumbled across them! David – any whispers about a Logies book being produced? That would partially explain why the info has been taken offline.

  5. must be one of the first times an olympics coverage has not been nominated.

it also looks like on air campaigning works a treat. 9 were the only ones that did it and probably had a huge role in getting the underbelly actors and karl nominated.
How can jessica marais not be nominated for outstanding actress? and very surprised that none of the new H&A women are nominated for popular new actress, and 2 ex-masterchef contestants are.

  6. Home And Away didn’t get a nomination for most popular new female talent the first time since 2003 (thanks wikipedia) lol
It would be good to see The Matty Johns Show win a logie.

  7. @Kane Asher Keddie a 3rd rate unknown actress? You’ve got to be kidding me. If anyone was really a supporter of Aussie TV or working in the industry, I’d reckon you’d know who Asher Keddie is.

She’s now an 8th time Logie-nominated actress and 2-time AFI nominated actress.

  8. Major omission – Angus McClaren for Rafters – shocker that Caton is there, Erik is twice, Zoe and Hannah but no Angus. However good news that Offspring has featured so strongly.

  9. @ Carta I agree with you entirely, very weak field of nominees this year because there really wasn’t much to choose from, that’s why you’re getting ex bigbrother newcomers like Chrissie Swan and third rate unknown actresses like Asher Keddie nominated for gold and very slim pickings for the best new talent category as well as most of the others.

Just shows what dire straits the Australian television industry is in at the moment with the airwaves flooded with factual/reality shows at the expense of good drama and comedy.

  10. I want to know who will be receiving the Hall of Fame Award this year. I’ve said this endlessly on here and I’ll keep on saying so until he receives one but Reg Watson deserves to get this award for sure.

I await with eagerness to see who will receive it this year.

  11. @Sammy I wish you didn’t say that! Outstanding New TV Presenters? I know they’re there, but don’t remind me that Matt Preston won this very award for eating on MasterChef. He did not deserve that award over Anastasia Feneri, Anna Hutchison, Camille Keenan and Eva Lazzaro!!

  12. I’m delighted for Margot Robbie (didn’t see that one coming, even though I voted for her!), but stunned that not a single Home and Away cast member is up for a major award (with only Charles Cottier scoring a much-deserved nomination for Most Popular New Talent). When was the first time that there wasn’t an H&A cast member in the Silver Most Popular categories?

  13. It still baffles me how there’s a Sport category, but they got rid of Comedy. They should really bring it back. So many great comedy series have undeservingly missed out.

And no Gold for Shaun this year? At least he won an AFI, which is worth far more than Logie Gold.

  14. the Chrissy Swan case is a farce! nothing against her personally. but “new” talents in the last few years have been ineligible for gold and popular actor/actress/presenter. and al the other “new” talents this year are still ineligible. why are the rules different for chrissy swan?

  15. Sorry if I’m posting too much, David!! 🙂

If the nominations are this surprising (longer voting time), I wonder how many surprises they’ll be on the night when the winners are announced!!

Very happy for Callan Mulvey, Asher Keddie, Margot Robbie, Kat Stewart and Emma Booth!!

Offspring, Rush and Neighbours all made Popular Drama!! Wow.

Catherine McClements made it into Outstanding Actress for Rush, not Tangle. Either way, I’m happy!

I watched every episode of Underbelly, and even though he was the ‘star’ of the show, Firass Dirani does not deserve a nomination for Most Outstanding New Talent.

  16. Interesting with Outstanding Sports Coverage – Bathurst almost always wins, but this time isn’t nominated. I wonder if the backlash from the not-so-live coverage has a bit to do with it. I’d like to think the Commonwealth Games coverage would go close – Foxtel did a very good job with it.
