Kyle Linahan quits Channel [V]

Music presenter Kyle Linahan will leave Channel [V] to embark on an extended overseas trip.

Music presenter Kyle Linahan will leave Channel [V] at the end of June, ending a two year stint with the channel.

He will continue on air until June 30th before beginning an overseas trip for 3 – 4 months.

“I’ve had an incredible time at Channel [V] over the past two years, and have really enjoyed the privilege of working alongside one of the premiere music production teams in Australia,” he said. “I have no doubt the lessons I’ve learned and the friends I’ve made in my time here will stand me in good stead for my journey onwards, in whichever direction that may be.

“I’ve been exceptionally blessed to have had this experience and can only hope I continue to be so lucky. I will miss them all greatly and hope to see everyone again soon.”

During his time with Channel [V] Linahan has covered such events as Big Day Out and Future Music Festival, as well as hosting The Riff, Most Requested and two seasons of B430.

XYZnetworks Music Channels General Manager, Shaun James said, “While we are undoubtedly sad to see Kyle leave Channel [V], we are excited by what adventures lie ahead for him. Kyle expressed to me his desire to travel the world and he knew that it was a matter of now or never. He has been an integral part of our on-air team and while he will be greatly missed, I know he has support of the whole Channel [V] family. We wish him nothing but the best for the next chapter in his life and career.”

Priot to Channel [V] Linahan spent 2 years with Nickelodeon Australia.

  1. What a nasty bunch of anonymous cats you lot are. Get a life of your own instead of pulling someone else’s down. Just reading your crap makes me want to shower. God you must have sad pathetic Nothing lives.

Good luck Kyle with whatever you do mate.

  2. He was perfect for the current Channel V, bland and lacking an real purpose – I think the channel should join him for a year of travelling to try and find itself.

  3. I worked at V during the days when it still had some edginess but was steadily migrating toward high rotation of the top 40.

Meetings announcing new programming would start with a whole heap of bluster and enthusiasm about local acts and our hot productions, followed by news that more local shows we produced had been cut and would be replaced by blocks of purchased US shows (in the MTV mould) and increasingly Urban music.

The fans of V knew it, we knew it. We all bailed. And viewers may have, but ratings were never anything to crow about anyway. It’s what V represented – a place where our unique Australian viewpoint and taste in music could be reflected, and that’s not done though just playing clips.

    So sad.

  4. channel v used to be good, they should go back to their live concert formats.

no loss with this kyle fella, young hosts are a dime a dozen.

  5. A bit off topic, but relevant I would love it if XYZ bought down the Much Music concept from Canada (see: muchmusic.com/ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MuchMusic) even if they bought it as channel feed like they do MTVNlive from the UK. Much give a format for a lot of small canadian production houses and producers that focus on that wider teen demo to get their stuff on the air, in addition to carrying a fair bit of MTV content and general Music Tv. Thats just my little opinion, but Kyles departure does highlight a need for a bit of a refocus over at ChV.

  6. Channel V used to be good when they had bands live in the studio. I still remember Muse’s performance on The Joint in 2000 and that live set The Mark Of Cain did in 2001 (hosted by Jabba) was awesome. I’ve still got a full set Foo Fighters did in the studio and Andrew G had his long, long hair in cornrows. The V Music Bus tours they did 7-8 years ago were good too.

Anyone remember that VJ a few years ago now he had black scruffy hair, a lisp and was all tiny and shy looking? I know after Channel V he got a gig playing in Ben Ely from Regurgitator’s solo band.

That reminds me Regurgitator’s Band In A Bubble show on there was good too, I’ve still got the EP they recorded in there but you could tell Jabba got on their nerves.

  7. He was okay, kinda awkward… not too fussed he’s leaving.

I’m a long-time lover of Channel [V], having watched it fairly consistently for about 12 years now and it is constantly changing year-to-year, for the better or for the worse.

I think the current problem is that Channel [V] contradicts itself somewhat, they try to project themselves as semi-alternative with the presenters and their musical taste, when 90% of the time they are pushing chart music.

They’ve had there fair share of good and not-so-good hosts… Andrew G, James Mathison, Jabba, Renae Bargh and Billy Russell were/are some personal favourites.

    1. I remember being in the room when a very green Billy Russell was auditioning for their Presenter Search. I was asked which of the three Melbourne finalists I thought was the better performer and gave Billy the thumbs up.

  8. Channel V is nothing like it used to be. Get rid of all the hosts, make V Hits the main channel and bring back Club V. Channel V is basically 5 hours of Dudesons and useless countdowns all day.
