Returning: Rescue: Special Ops

Rescue: Special Ops is about to return with 22 episodes, joining Sea Patrol to give Nine a Monday / Tuesday Aussie drama double.

Nine returns its drama series Rescue: Special Ops to Monday nights from Monday May 30th.

In only its third outing the show is already being billed as “New” Rescue (that was fast) but at 22 episodes this will be its biggest season so far.

New faces will include Craig MacLachlan and Todd Lasance with guest stars to include Wil Traval, Dieter Brummer, Saskia Burmeister, Bridie Carter, Daniel Roberts, Michael Dorman, Caroline Craig and Josef Ber.

At 8:30pm Mondays the show will take on TEN’s Offspring and Seven’s Amazing Race Australia, but with Sea Patrol it gives Nine a Monday / Tuesday Aussie drama double.

RESCUE: Special Ops, Channel Nine’s high-octane drama about paramedics who risk their lives on dangerous missions, returns for a thrilling third season Monday, May 30 at 8.30pm.

In the premiere episode, the Special Ops team are threatened with the introduction of Lifeblood, a privately owned rescue organisation trying to take over their business. It leaves the entire team on edge, in fear of losing their jobs and their future in rescue work.

At the helm of Lifeblood is Hayden Bradley (Craig McLachlan), a smart, attractive and very convincing businessman who will stop at nothing to become the only rescue organisation in operation. For Bradley the excitement of battle lies in winning in business. And he sees Special Ops Station Manager Michelle Letourneau (Libby Tanner) as a worthy, exciting and sexy adversary.

The first move on Bradley’s agenda is taking over the chopper contract, leaving the Special Ops team helpless. With rescue officer Heidi Wilson (Katherine Hicks) getting her pilot’s licence, she is faced with a tough decision – does she stay or go? As for her close colleague Jordan Zwitkowski (Daniel Amalm) this could be a case of life, love or death.

Lifeblood’s athletic and charismatic head rescue officer Cam Jackson (Todd Lasance) gets instantly offside with Dean Gallagher (Les Hill) when he takes an interest in Lara Knight (Gigi Edgley) who has always been just out of Dean’s reach. With Cam’s good looks, confidence and constant need to experience the rush of extreme sports, Lara finds him hard to resist.

Meanwhile, Chase Gallagher (Andrew Lees) finds his life in turmoil from a debilitating shoulder injury. With Lifeblood trying to muscle him out of a job, he can’t afford to take any time off, leaving him with no choice but to take drastic measures. And the rock of the Special Ops team, Vince Marchello (Peter Phelps), is back out in the field, giving everything he’s got to prevent any kind of takeover.

  1. This show hasn’t had decent ratings since episode one so why perservere??? Having big guest stars will not give this trashy show ratings. Channel 9 have no idea. They produce other rubbish shows such as Sea Patrol (which is also widely unwatched). Look at Channel 7 who are producing 2 of the highest rating dramas on television: Packed To The Rafters + Winners And Losers. Viewers are just sick to death of cop based shows and hospital dramas. Channel 9 are so dumb that they will probably try to resurrect Channel 7’s titanic flop: Cops LAC!!!!

  2. Will probably rate between 700k and 1 mill. I wouldn’t be surprised if it pulled better figures than Offspring on some nights, and Nine obviously has faith in the show.

  3. why waste your time Nine.No What they need is to wake up and realise not everyone wants to watch dramas that are crime based/violent and non family friendly.

  4. Now way it can compete with offspring and race bad move nine you should just admit defeat on that times slot and put something you dont need to succed

  5. Hmm I think it will struggle to be honest the male viewers will be hooked into TAR and female
On Offspring not to mention the MC leadin.

  6. I am glad it is back! I agree that it has been renewed to fill drama quota, but it did improve!
People may bag it, but it is being given a better chance than most other dramas!
    It did rate reasonably well!
I am sure it will struggle against TAR OZ and two Aussie dramas head to head means the Aussie industry often suffers!
I will watch TAR, record RSO & get my sister to record 13 eps of Offspring…

  7. 22 Episodes is a big ask. Everything will depend on the quality of the writing and the acting. Going on past performance it does not bode too well. Following the US route of large number of eps is the wrong way to go, the Brit way of 6 eps is too short, we need something like 9-12 eps that leaves us wanting more…..

  8. Very risky. I watch Offspring, my brother watches both Offspring and TAR, so how he will fit a third Australian produced show on in one night I don’t know??!!! I will have to tape it myself and watch later….

  9. @JJ, one of the reasons it may have been renewed is that considering a first series had already been shot and was going to air, and 9 didn’t really have any other dramas on their slate except for Underbelly, it was easier to give the go ahead to a further 22 episodes and go some way to fulfilling their drama quota.

  10. I really can’t understand why this show was ever renewed. Terrible ratings, poor drama, all gloss and heroics and no substance. It’s 10 times worse than Cops LAC ever was so why is it back?

  11. On their website they have it starting on Monday May 26th? Looks like Nine are on the ball. And it’s just called “Rescue” now (providing their website is correct!!!!!!
Actually, RSO’s ratings were never as bad as many people think – it dare fare better than Rush & as well as Offspring last year.
