Chris & Anastasia out of Amazing Race

One of the most volatile teams in the Race is sent packing, amid reports they are no longer a couple.

Volatile Amazing Race Australia couple Chris Pselletes and Anastasia Drimousis were eliminated from Seven’s Reality contest last night.

A manual cross-cut sawing challenge in Poland tested the pair to their limits.

Anastasia was unable to complete the task, opting to take a penality of 4 hours. Teammates Sam and Renae, who managed to cut one slice, took a 2 hour penality.

By the end of the episode all other teams checked onto the finish mat before the 4 hours was up, resulting in the controversial team being sent home.

Chris and Anastasia have been one of the show’s most profile teams, notably for Chris’ temper. But in last night’s episode he kept his cool as a tearful Anastasia continually broke down.

After being eliminated the couple spoke about sticking together as a couple, but yesterday media reports claimed they had split.

“We decided to not continue,” Drimousis has since said. “It has nothing to do with the show, we just decided to sort of not be together.”

There has been some speculation Seven tried to keep the lid on their relationship status.

At the Amazing Race series launch, the couple declined to tell TV Tonight if they were still a couple or not.

  1. I’m loving this show, but unfortunately i don’t think the numbers have been strong enough to warrant a second series… Seven could just chuck a Bones repeat in the slot and probably get a similar figure at a fraction of the cost…

  2. Another good episode last night except I would have liked them go to Warsaw or the holocaust like the US did once. But its also nice to see teams work together and things can change. Like when Tyler and Nathan got annoyed with Luke when they were in the mine and Luke didnt answer them when they asked what the crystal looked like then at the end of the day they let Jeff and Luke win because they did the majority of the sawring with the wood. They deserved 1st place.

I laughed when Renae was sitting there watching Luke when he was doing the saw work and Renae said im enjoying the view from here. His biceps were pretty good.

  3. What’s wrong with an intersection at the end? I would have thought a last minute dash to the pitstop is exactly what the producers were aiming for.

  4. Last night was definitely an improvement on last week’s episode re the challenges. But still, scratching around searching for a very fake-looking “crystal” was lame. The sawing challenge was great but making it an intersection was a) unfair for the female-heavy teams and b) dumb at the end of the leg. It just means the two pairs teaming up at the intersection would be in a race together to the finish line.

It didn’t end up like that, but only because someone gave up. Poorly thought out production-wise.

  5. I found it more interesting what happened to the surfers, having their money stolen. Which I think hasn’t happened on the The Amazing Race before.

Really enjoying the Aussie version. Still a pity that they’re not repeating the episodes on 7mate or 7two. Would love to watch them again on TV.

  6. @sarah h, I agree hope Sam & Renae or Jeff & Luke win the race. My tip is Dave & Kelly eliminated next, followed by the farmers Matt & Tom who have done really well to last this far in the race, given both of them haven’t travelled out of Australia before.

  7. It was a strange way to organise the challenges, they had an intersection forcing two teams together as the last challenge of the leg. So, it could have been just the drive to the pit stop that seperated the teams.

  8. Despite my general low opinion of virtually all Australian TV, I think the Amazing Race Australia has been astonishingly good, matching the original. Just goes to show that Australian TV doesn’t actually have to be mediocre it just mostly is.

I was slightly concerned though at how the 4 hour penalty could have worked. Unless the editing was showing a problem where there was none, last night’s episode suggested that even with a 4 hour penalty for non completion Chris and Anastasia weren’t all that far away from checking in when the last 2 teams who had completed the task arrived. If those last two teams were slightly later and arrived after the end of the penalty, this would have been a travesty and suggests rather poor task design in this case.

  9. I think it was refreshing to see another team besides Tyler & Nathan finally win a leg of the race, off to Israel next week, should be good, going by the promos one team doesn’t make it to the pit stop, so Grant tBowler might have to go out & eliminate that team while they are still trying to do a task, Phil from the US version has done that a few times.
