Renewed: The Amazing Race Australia

Grab your backpacks. Applications are now open for the next season of The Amazing Race Australia.

Seven has renewed The Amazing Race Australia for a second season.

The local adaptation produced by ActiveTV has been a success for Seven, getting the thumbs up from fans of the US series and winning its timeslot, sometimes without much of a lead in.

“We’ve been thrilled with the sheer scale and quality of the first series of The Amazing Race Australia,” says Seven’s Head of Production Brad Lyons.

“And we can’t wait to see the diverse bunch of Aussies who apply for the second series of the Race.”

Applications are now open for new contestants, and likely to top the flurry of applicants -last year there were 100,000 application forms downloaded in the first week alone.

To apply visit www.yahoo7.com.au/amazingrace.

There are three more episodes for series one to the finish line.

  1. Also with product Placement , thank goodness it’s not as bad as the Asian verson of tar. They can’t go a minute without saying one for their many soporters names being said.

  2. @Bruce and Robbie
I never said there was no product placement, just that it was subtle.

I totally understand that product placement it just a reality of tv these days. But it is appreciated when the makers go to an effort to make it less in-your-face and naturally fitting into the show. Showing a card as they slide it across the desk to pay is hardy the invasive type you see in most other reality shows.

  3. If anyone feels doubtful to apply because they don’t have a personality that you think their looking for, don’t be because they might be looking for a down to earth Australian and alot of the teams this year said just do it and don’t give it a second thought.

With when it will air it will probably air at around the same time as it did this year as 7 would want to air tar 20 around that time.

  4. Well, I wasn’t surprised at this. It was a given that there would be a second season! Can’t wait. hope they air it towards the second half ot the year and that we won’t have to wait til next year.

  5. I wouldn’t want it on 7.30, they’d probably have to censor some of the little things contestants say that they can have on the show because it’s at 8.30.

  6. Awesome news. Hopefully next year they start this in February with a better lead in like My Kitchen Rules or better yet have it at 7:30pm. I love this show and so glad Seven are continuing it.

  7. @Jerome
We have NAB splashed all over our screens through out every ep 😛
Product placement on a free to air show/production is crucial and will always be there.. Because without the support of the businesses getting promotions.. then we would not have an Aussie version at all.

They always flash the NAB cards as they pay over the counter and NAB provides all the cash payment prizes. Not to mention the amount of on air advertising both cannon and Nikon cameras seem to be getting during the ad breaks.

On a side note to any “young” Aussies wishing to apply.. The Age should/will be set at 21 years to apply.
They opened it up to 18 year olds last year.. then logic kicked in, Other countries will require persons to be over 21 years of age to be classed as a adult for consenting reasons.

  8. It definitely deserves a second season. It’s been Seven’s saving grace on Monday nights and hasn’t dropped below the magic million mark all season. Perhaps they should start it earlier next year and team it up with MKR on Monday’s.

  9. Great news – I really thought it would be too costly to produce a second season (a la Gladiators). Congratulations to everyone involved in the production. I’m determined to be on this next season.

  10. The 2nd Season needs to start in Febuary with a better lead in show like My Kitchen Rules on a monday night or put it on at 7.30pm on a wednesday or thursday night.

  11. I haven’t noticed that, Bruce? I know when they use the card, it’s always visible. Haven’t heard any verbal product cues going along with that, though.

Unless I’m just missing them. 😛

  12. @Jerome… don’t forget the Australian version and their NAB credit cards flashed every time they need to pay for something.

Contestant: “Do you accept NAB international money?”
    Shopkeeper: “Oh of course!”

    Amazing!

  13. Great. Im sure the 2nd season will be even better and we will see Grant interact with contestants more. But you always had to give it another season.

  14. Agreed, Jerome – part of why I love it. Not forced, and part of the scenery almost.

Still aware of them, but it’s like “Hi, I’m here if you want me.” rather than the “OMG, Look at me! Me! Me! Me! OMG!” that other shows use as product placement. 😉

Am glad it’ll be back next year!

  15. Great news – loving the Australian version; Don’t want it to end! (fingers crossed for a “celebrity edition” so we can bring back the Big W ladies!)

  16. I think one thing that needs to be noted is the product placement. It’s very subtle compared to the US version where everything is “the travelocity gnome”. the travelocity gnome is heavy, the travelocity gnome was sitting next to me, I was constantly checking the travelocity gnome, I love my travelocity gnome. always unnatural and forced. In the Aus version, apart from saying who the prize money is courtesy of, if you weren’t looking for the product placement you probably wouldn’t notice it. Compare that to The Block, and TAR is the one with higher production costs.

  17. The one good thing Seven has, hooray. Hopefully they get a good mix of contestants for S2 again, this season has been a lot better than most of the American ones and I hope that wasn’t just a fluke.

  18. Awesome!! Hopefully next year they give it a better lead-in than abysmally-rating axed shows like No Ordinary Family.

It’d also be great if they launched it at the start of the year (before Easter) in a 7:30 slot, away from Masterchef
