The last ever Video Hits

After 24 years, the last ever Video Hits will air at 10am this Saturday on TEN.

The last ever Video Hits will air at 10am this Saturday on TEN.

The long-running music video show was a victim of cost-cutting under interim CEO Lachlan Murdoch last month.

The show, which has had an impressive 24 year run on television, will wrap with a retrospective of the two decades it has been on air, hosted by Faustina ‘Fuzzy’ Agolley and Dylan Lewis.

Any suggestions for the final song, please?

  1. What have we Done to Deserve This!!!
F*** You channel 10 the now F***ing shittiest channel in Australia and The World!!!

And Mainly F*** you Murdoch you Di*****d who doesn’t know how to F***ing run a business you Gronk!!!

  2. @Leon. I fully agree with your assesment of the situation. Netowork Ten are idiots, the current board is anyway. But as i have mentioned in my previous comment, if whatever Ten replace video hits with does not work it is a reall possibility that video hits could be back by this time next year, or another music show probably produced by ARIA. If that happens ofcourse Ten will never admit that it was their fault.

  3. 5 unlikely suggestions from me (not that I’d see it for 2 reasons, being in a regional area and having local football commitments)

Travelling Wilburys – End of the Line
Boyz II Men – End of the Road
REM – It’s the End of the World as we Know it (and I feel fine)
    N’Sync – Bye Bye Bye
James Blunt – Goodbye My Lover

  4. Ch10 are complete Idiots for getting rid of Video Hits, Rage is the last Music Video show standing on FTA.. Ch10 has effectivly killed the Music Industry with this move!

Some song Suggestions to close out Video Hits
-Green Day – Good Riddance (time of your life)
    -Spice Girls – Goodbye
-ABBA – Under Attack (the part where everyones walking outta the building would be ironic)

  5. I hope you are f***ng happy Network Ten d****heads, you have killed an otherwise very good music video show. (shudders to think how much longer 6:30 with George Negus has got left…)

  6. i have 4 songs that hopefully Video Hits choose as their last song:

    – thanks for the memories (fall out boy)
    – time of your life (greenday)
    – Video Hits first ever song
    – Thriller (Michael Jackson) because i think it has topped numerous lists made by the show

  7. Please don’t do Time Of Your Life – it’s unbelievably cheesy and predictable. Something Aussie… Maybe Spiderbait’s Buy Me A Pony or Stevie. Or Silverchair’s Tomorrow. Or Regurgitator’s Song Formerly Known As…

  8. ‘A**hole’ – Denis Leary (I’m not saying who the song would be aimed @)
    “Tribute” – Tenacious D
    or
Some sort of Jive Bunnyesque Meagamix song that celebrates 24 years in one song, or a one off medley song performed by Tripod?

  9. @ Matt. I agree that Video Hits only focused on the mainstream and on pop, but they pretty much had always done that. Maybe Netowork Ten did not have enough music footage predating the mid 80s. You have to remember that Ten was a channel or Network for the young demographic, so it would not have made sense to cater to older people. Video Hits was a young people’s show. The show was facing stiff competition from pay tv and rage. More choice and the format change is what killed the show in the end. If you add hosts other jobs and people which go with that such as: Make up and camera men and sound. The costs will always increase significantly. So your comment is only half right at best.

I have enjoyed watching Video Hits since 1996 when it was just a clip based format with the interactive top ten list, competition and the shout outs from artists. I remember they used to have a voiceover artist who did the voice over for the show i think he is at nine now. Video Hits had quite a few sub categories such as: Bullets, Predictions, New Releases, Past Hits, Classics and the interactive top ten. That old format was great i did not understand why they had to change it. Before the format change whenever the show needed to be refreshed all they did was to change the graphics and update or change the logo. They should have just stuck with that. I thought the last 3 episodes of the Best of 24 years was ausome. It was great to see those old shout outs from the likes of Garbage, No doubt and Tlc. I know for a fact when tv networks axe longrunning shows like this one what ever they do next does not work. I dont think we will see the last of VH, maybe nine will see an oportunity and revive it and put it on Go!. I can also see another music show on Ten if what ever they put to replace VH does not work. One thing is for sure i have enjoyed the show and i will tape it on saturday if nothing else then for archival purposes.
