Tyler & Nathan win The Amazing Race Australia

Surfers Tyler & Nathan are the inaugural winners of The Amazing Race Australia, winning $250,000 cash.

Surfers Tyler & Nathan have won The Amazing Race Australia.

The pair take home $250,000 as inaugural champions in the Reality series hosted by Grant Bowler.

Second place went to Models Sam & Renae.

Father and Son team Jeff & Luke took third.

The 90 minute episode saw contestants race from Sri Lanka to Singapore and finally to Perth.

Jeff & Luke, Tyler & Nathan were both on the final flight to Perth, but Sam & Renae had to board a flight 30 minutes later.

But the WA girls had a home-town advantage, knowing the fastest roads to get around local tourist spots including King’s Park and Fremantle Prison.

The final challenge required contestants to arrange flags from their destinations in chronological order on a beach at Cape Peron. It put all three teams on the same page in a three-way battle against the clock.

The final pitstop saw Bowler awaiting the first team at Heirisson Island. Tyler and Nathan headed back to Perth, but local girls Sam & Renae in hot pursuit knew the local terrain.

The Australian adaptation of the Reality series has been well-received by fans of The Amazing Race with plenty of interest in some of its contestants including Tracy and Anne-Marie, Joey and Richard and Anastasia and Chris.

Seven is already calling for entrants for a second season.

  1. Great series 7!
Well produced, interesting and likeable characters. Not overwrought. I guess only being an hour a week meant we didn’t have to put up with the angst we see in MC The Block etc.

Editing at the end made it seem a lot closer than it obviously was. I guess this is the case throughout the series but this is just editorial license to keep it interesting.

  2. the end was a bit crap as they had the girls driving in daylight but running to the mat in darkness. Better to show it as a walk over by the surfers than fake editing to make it seem close.

Hope they show the new US season come September

  3. Great season ,great teams , great host , great locations.beter then alot of seasons of the US verson Can’t wait for season 2 , I would apply if I was 21 or older

Ps when will 7 air tarUS 19

  4. Loved the series. Just hope that seven can keep the final result under wraps a bit better next time. This article was not a spoiler bc the result was out weeks ago. I still enjoyed the racing and the personalities were very likable.

  5. The editing was really weird. In one cut away the surfers were near the Bell Tower and the girls looked like they were on Mount Henry bridge yet it was really dark when they finished.

Still happy with the series and that they finished in Perth.

  6. As much as i hated them from the get go the best team won the race although i was hoping it was the girls, it seems those flags stuffed them up. Can’t wait until season 2. Season 1 was such a cracker.

  7. Enjoyed this really well done Oz version! Possibly even better than US without all those screaming Americans. Cheers!

[ps. This article would be a massive spoiler for anyone who recorded!]

  8. A great finale. Wanted Sam and Renae to win but happy enough for the surfies to win. Wasn’t a big fan of Jeff and Luke.

Noted one team (the girls?) mention that they were careful to remember each country they’d been to, in order, but not the flags. Given that this has been the final challenge in a number of series’ of the US version, maybe they should have! Good to see a few ‘extra’ flags from countries they didn’t visit were tossed in there just to make it that little bit harder.

Aside from some questionable editing towards the end (daylight at the beach, daylight in the cars, late night at the mat for the girls?), thoroughly enjoyable. Looking forward to the next aussie season already!

  9. Great Series.I sometimes watched in the beginning back when it was a lead in to Family Guy and found it light entertainment.Better than the footy boofhead show

  10. Happy that they won, would have preferred the models to win but anyone apart from the cringe-tastic father & son is fine.

Not happy with the mostly luck-based stuff for the final episode though. Apart from the ropes/stairs and the flags at the end, it was all just random luck (I guess the flags were half luck as well actually).

  11. Would be interesting to see how long sam&renae were at the flags challenge. Obviously the editors wanted it to seem like a close dash to the finish line. But it looked like grant bowler was standing there for a good 12hours waiting for them.

  12. man I have a gripe with this show.

first of all I’m sick of people saying the average joe surfers won, they are models! one has dated Paris Hilton, the other is going out with Erin McNaught! Probably how they got on the show in the 1st place.

The ending was utter manufactured crap! the girls had no idea about the flags yet when the “surfers” got it, nearly straight after the girls did.. what a fluke? Then the girls turned up to the finish line in the dark!

There was no exciting neck and neck finish like they alluded, and it was obvious. I hope they fix this up next season, all these deliberate sub plots that make no sense.

  13. It has been a fantastic series and I am really happy that Seven actually made it to the high standards of the US version. Having relatable Aussies involved made it great also. Well done to whoever was in charge of casting. Have only one issue with the final flag arranging task. There should have been separate Hong Kong and Macau flags instead of just a China flag, considering they never technically entered China and that Hong Kong and Macau are their own ‘countries’.

  14. Can’t wait for season 2! I can’t believe how bad they went at the final roadblock! that said, i would of been more confused with the red white blue Euro flags, not the Asian ones.

  15. Well done to Nathan and Tyler for delivering such an Amazing end to an Amazing Race. Fully deserved. Sam and Renae finishing second is also an Amazing achievement. Commiserations to Jeff and Luke, but you should also be proud of what you achieved.
